More Brilliance From This Administration…

So, you know that whole Obama administration decision to prosecute 9/11 terrorist scumbags in civilian court? Yeah. Not only is it insane, but it’s going to cost a lot of money. Not that Obama and his buddies give a rat’s ass, but it’s going to cost “more than $400 million to provide security if the pre-trial preparation and trial of the suspects in the Sept. 11 terror attacks takes two years, which insiders say is virtually certain, according to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”

Oh yeah, and if the trial goes beyond 2 years (which we all know it will, since lawyers like to draaaaaag things out as much as humanly possible), it’ll cost another projected $206 million annually.

And then there’s the whole resourcing issue. They’ll take normal, every day crime-fighting resources off the street of NYC to help with the trial, of course. And on top of that, there’s security. Which will be completely insane.

Security is expected to include the closure of many streets around the court house, a very heavy uniformed police presence, snipers, heavy weapons teams, undercover police officers and a massive federal and local intelligence and counter terror operation.”

I’m sure that won’t cost any money, either. Nah.

Of course, they’re saying that New York taxpayers should not – and hopefully will not – get stuck with the bill on this. Because it’s a FEDERAL issue. And, that means that when it all comes down to it, we’re ALL stuck with the damn bill. I mean, the last time I checked, I pay federal taxes. I assume you do, too.

I guess when you’re used to spending like a drunken sailor on a 3-day binge, this kind of money seems like chump change. Funny how this administration talks about finding ways to scrimp and save in healthcare, yet this priority of theirs seems to be a viable expense.

Hope and change. Aw yeah.

Sometimes, A Song Works So Much Better Than Just Words

A clever and competent reader sent this to me yesterday. The KSM trial in New York City is bogus. This video? Kind of funny…you know, in a “holy crap what is my country coming to?” kind of way, but funny, nonetheless.

I wonder if ol’ blue eyes is rolling over in his grave right now.

Sotomayor And Coburn Chat About Guns

firearm
Senator Coburn is a white male, Republican Senator (and M.D.) from Oklahoma. Judge Sotomayor is a Latina female Judge from the Bronx. So, I was very interested in the question Coburn posed to Sotomayor about the possibility of gun control legislation – mainly because the two involved in the discussion have such very different perspectives on life and the law, really. But also because I’m a big proponent of my Second Amendment right to bear arms and defend myself.

What bothered me about the exchange was the lack of clarity of her answer to the question of “whether or not (I) have a right to self defense.” This question, of course, stemmed primarily from Sotomayor’s involvement in a New York appeals court decision last January that restricted gun rights. I know I don’t have a Juris Doctorate, but even a miniscule, un-lawyer-like brain like mine can comprehend that question pretty well.

Her answer? “That is an abstract question with no meaning to me.”

Someone help me understand this. How in the hell is that question abstract in any way? Especially in a room full of cloudy legalese, I think it was pretty clear. Do I have a right to defend myself in my own home? Yep…not a lot of ambiguity there. And, seeing as how her co-ruling on that New York case resulted in the right of the state to “regulate or ban weapons if they have a rational basis to do so,” you’d think the question wouldn’t be so abstract to her at this point in her career.

Many think that she dodged the bullet (no pun intended), including this article.

Me? Well, I’m asking for a pair of Christian Louboutin black pumps for my birthday in August – with a matching Gloc G-19 9mm, of course. So, the Second Amendment doesn’t seem confusing to me at all, as I feel it’s my right as a law-abiding, tax-paying, patriotic American citizen. Period. End of story. But that’s neither here nor there…

Obtuse or not obtuse? I’ll let you, clever and comptent readers, decide for yourself:

Obama’s New Defense Plan

SP32-20090629-204231
Earlier today, a clever and competent reader (from California even!!!) sent me a link to this editorial, which describes how Obama ‘s Democratic buddies in Congress tried to deny New York the funding it needs to defend itself against the threat of nuclear weapons.  Apparently, Obama’s aides as well as Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano were LOUD AND PROUD about wanting to deny $40 million to NYC, which would be used to pay for radiological detectors on the highways, bridges, tunnels and waterways going in and out of the city.  So, I was reading that article, and within moments of finishing it I came upon this photo, and immediately thought that perhaps these high-tech flyswatters are Obama’s new answer to defense for our country.  I mean, the surly puppies can only go so far, right?

Anyway, the measure to restore the funding to the city passed with a vote of 282 to 148, and hopefully you’re sitting down right now, because I’m sure it will come as a TOTAL SURPRISE to you that a majority of Democrats voted to kill it, and an overwhelming number of Republicans voted to save it.  One particularly imbecilic justification for killing the bill that David Price (D -NC) gave was that it was just ”an earmark for New York.”  I’m not making this up.

Apparently, we can afford earmarks to figure out why pigs in Iowa smell bad, but protecting one of our nation’s most important cities? Not important.

But our military has flyswatters, you guys.  So, you know, we have that.
