State Dinner!!

Daisy and I got to go to the GOP State Dinner last night,  because Big E is so nice to us and includes us in so many GOP reindeer games.  We were excited to go, not just because Mike Pence was giving the keynote, but because it was the first opportunity for each of us to wear our fancy Louboutins.  TOGETHER, no less.

When we got there, there was a cute little chick sort of directing everyone to where they needed to go, and we were informed that the “main” reception along with the registration/check-in area was upstairs, and that the VIP reception was downstairs.  We went upstairs to check in, and were given name tags which indicated we were seated at Table #1, and VIP passes, which totally made us giggle,  because that meant that Big E registered us as VIP’s, which is RIDICULOUS.  We proceeded to ask the cute check-in girls if there were tiaras waiting for us behind the desk as well, but it turned out there were not.  Clearly, there are limits to our VIPness.

Anyway, we headed to the VIP reception area where all sorts of important people were mingling, and we went straight for the bar.  Daisy was pretty stoked to be able to drink after being pregnant for so long, and I was stoked too because I never have occasion to drink things like a gin and tonic unless I’m out somewhere fancy.

Murray Clark, the GOP State Chairman, made some quick opening remarks to introduce Mike Pence, who was there not only with his adorable wife Karen, but also with two of his brothers and their wives.  One brother in particular looks JUST LIKE HIM.  We decided we needed to get a picture taken with him, because we figured people don’t fuss over him nearly as much as they do his brother.  He was reluctant at first, but then said it’d be ok as long as his wife could be in the photo too.  It turned out his wife didn’t want to be in the photo, but TOOK the photo of us anyway, and then we introduced ourselves and she said, “YOU’RE the CHICKS??!? OMG!” and proceeded to take more pictures of us and we had tons of fun talking to her.  She was so nice.  And after that we giggled a bunch over the fact that Mike Pence’s sister-in-law knew who we were.

The Chicks with Mike and Karen Pence

Someone started ringing a cowbell, which apparently is the Marriott’s way of telling VIP’ers that it’s time to move to the dinner party room.   So we all herded into the main dinner area, and sat down.  We were seated next to one of the hotties who was in our Hunks On The Right calendar, Jamal Smith, and his totally foxy wife.

All of us snickered over the fact that there was a perfectly adorable chick who was assigned to sing the National Anthem before dinner, but she had to bring the lyrics with her,  and she STILL messed up a line or two.  Yikes.  I mean, I understand nerves, but wow.  That’s a song you kind of want to have down pat before you sing it at a GOP dinner.  I’m just saying.

Anyway, we chatted it up for awhile with Dee Dee Benkie, GOP National Committeewoman, who is hilarious and a total blast and who we are going to be working closely with on a new project (details forthcoming).  We had a quick chat with Our Man Mitch, who gave a terrific introduction to Mike Pence right before Pence’s keynote.  Mitch talked a lot about the whole “change you can believe in” mantra that Obama used during his campaign, and how the GOP is the party who is about “change that believes in YOU.”  I loved that – it’s the perfect way to capture the fact that it’s Republicans who believe in the capability of people to be productive and able to make their own decisions, versus Democrats who seem to think that people are only surviving because government provides for them.

Pence’s address was awesome, because he’s basically one of the most powerful speakers in politics today.  You can’t listen to him speak and NOT be inspired or feel huge optimism.

As always, we had a MOST excellent evening.  A few more photos after the jump!

Mitch Daniels’ Introduction Of Richard Mourdock

This is the video I took last night of Our Man Mitch giving a really great introduction to Richard (this will all make sense once you see the next post below). Anyway, I just want you to note that Mitch looks DIRECTLY INTO my camera a few times. I can’t believe I was even able to keep still.

Ok. Relatively still.

So, if you don’t know a lot about our state treasurer, Mitch fills you in on his awesomeness in this video. And it’s an extra treat that you get to see Murray Clark off to the side (and Richard too, of course). Enjoy.

Mock Mingles With Mourdock, Mitch, Murray And Many More

Tonight was SO FUN, you guys.  There was a reception held for State Treasurer Richard Mourdock at the Indy GOP headquarters, and I accompanied Big E to it, because he is well aware of my adoration of Richard, and because, I’ll admit it, I begged him to take me.  Plus, as an added bonus, Mitch Daniels was going to be introducing Richard, AND GOP State Chair Murray Clark was going to be introducing Mitch.  So it was like a Trifecta of Awesomeness, and utterly irresistible.

Unfortunately, Daisy was still tending to her canine child and couldn’t make it, but we are both headed to the GOP State Dinner on Monday night, and she will be making up for lost time there by hug assaulting everyone.

Big E and I headed inside, and Mitch came in right behind us.  And of course I beamed at him and giggled, and he said, “Where’s your partner in crime?  I feel like I’m getting a little ripped off only seeing one chick.”  Naturally, I called Daisy immediately afterwords to tell her that, and she squealed with glee and I think felt a little better about having to miss out on being there.

Anyway, I met lots of nice people at the reception, including a couple of chicks who had recently become fans of our site, and who were incredibly sweet and enthusiastic.   I think, second to getting to hug assault and facesmash important political figures, my favorite favorite thing is to meet other chicks who are fans of our site and who appreciate our efforts to give conservatism a makeover.  I just love that.

Now – you’ll find out more about this in a few days, but Daisy and I are working with the Indiana Tea Party on an exciting project.  And I spent part of the evening recruiting people for this exciting project, with MUCH success, I’m happy to report.  Once we nail down a few more specifics, we’ll fill you in on the details.  But progress was made this evening, and we expect that after Monday, we’ll be well on our way to telling you what we’ve got planned.  SO FUN!

This evening was a blast all around, but I can’t deny that the highlight for me was facesmashing everyone.  There was no way I was letting the Governor off the hook this time, since I’ve been so well behaved at recent events.  For ME, anyway.  He was trying to sneak out without being noticed, but I had Mitch-radar on full blast, and I assaulted him near the entrance and said, “You know I’m going to have to facesmash you before you go.”  And not only did he let me, but afterwords, HE GAVE ME A KISS ON THE CHEEK.

I may never wash my face again.  Seriously.

I also facesmashed Big E, Murray, and Richard.  No one was safe, really.  I was on a total spree.

I took a few pictures of the Actual Introductions being made, but the lighting was HORRIBLE and none of the pictures worked out.  I also got video of Mitch’s introduction, which is uploading to youtube right now – I’ll put that up in the morning for you.  I didn’t have enough space to get Richard’s speech, and I wasn’t quick enough on the draw to get Murray’s intro of Mitch.  But the most important thing is that I DID get facesmash pictures with all of them.  Even Big E!

To the girls I met who are recent fans, and to the adorable IU College Republican Chair (Justin, I think? – GOD I’m terrible with names) – thanks for being so sweet!  It was a blast to meet you.

Picture of the guest of honor is below – the rest are after the jump!!

Murray Clark Talks About The Disastrous Healthcare Bill

2009-11-08_173746

Here’s what our favorite state chairman had to say about Pelosicare passing the House:

Today is a frustrating day for Hoosiers and all Americans. In the midst of economic turmoil, and in spite of the very vocal concerns of their constituents, the Democrat-led Congress showed how out of touch they have become by passing legislation that we can’t afford, will kill jobs, and will bankrupt states. Reps. Baron Hill, Brad Ellsworth and Joe Donnelly voted to thrust upon us a bill that generations of young Hoosiers will struggle to pay for.

“In the last month alone, we have seen the national deficit reach $1.4 trillion, the national unemployment rate go over 10%, and state after state cut deeply into their budgets.  Now, thanks in part to Baron Hill, Brad Ellsworth and Joe Donnelly, we are adding the burden of over $1 trillion in new spending, billions in taxes and spending, and a mountain of unfunded Medicaid mandates for each state.

“Americans are clamoring for water to be thrown on the economic fire. Democrats like Reps. Hill, Ellsworth and Donnelly continue to give them gasoline.”

Oooo, SNAP.

Mock ‘N Daisy Mingle With Mike And Murray

So, this afternoon, Daisy and I took some time off of work to do some really cool political stuff.  First, thanks to some cool people we know, we got invited to a blogger Q&A with Congressman Mike Pence, held at the Indy GOP headquarters.   There were just a handful of us blogger-type people there, and even though we weren’t permitted to do any audio/visual stuff during the discussion, we did manage to get a photo:

SP32-20090812-210652

As you can see, we all decided to go with a black and white clothing theme for the photo.

Even though the Q&A session was just a short 1/2 hour, we did get a couple of questions in, and took some notes as Pence answered.   Much of the discussion centered around healthcare, not surprisingly.  Pence said that inexplicably, Obama continues to insist that we can all keep our current insurance if we’re happy with it – despite the fact that people with Actual Brains understand that employers are going to DROP their employees’ health benefits in droves if there is a “public option.”  (The “Actual Brains” thing is my wording, not his.)

Pence said that there will be a Republican healthcare reform bill presented in the House in September, and that people should visit www.gop.gov to get the most up to date information on their planned legislation.

I asked him about his Broadcast Freedom Amendment, which sought to prevent the Fairness Doctrine from ever rearing its ugly head again, and he informed us that his efforts have been blocked FIVE TIMES; in other words, the majority leaders will not even allow the bill to be VOTED on, despite the fact that there is lots of bi-partisan support for it.   That’s a scary thing, you guys.  It’s blatant censorship, and nothing more.

After the session, we grabbed him for the photo, and we hoped that we could catch him on video doing his George Bush impression, but he got all bashful and shy about it and finally said that he’d do it for us “next time” which was cool because that implies that there will be a next time.

After our visit with the Congressman, we got a quick tour of the headquarters, and then hung out with a couple of the Hoosier Access boys for a little while, who know all the ins and outs of local and state politics and tried to school us for a bit.  And then?  It was PARTAY TIME with Murray Clark, the Indiana State GOP Chairman.

You guys, Murray is PRECIOUS.  I mean, he’s just the sweetest, nicest most genuine man ever.  He’s been very supportive of our happy little site, and actually accepted our invitation to have after work cocktails.  So we met at a nice little restaurant close to the headquarters, and you know what he spent a better part of an hour doing?  Asking us to tell him all about ourselves.  And when I say “all” I mean he wanted to literally know everything we had done since highschool.   He asked about our educations, our marriages, our kids, our jobs, how we met our husbands, how we met each other…just everything.  It was just genuine, I-want-to-get-to-know-you-chicks, real, honest-to-goodness interest in us and how ultimately we came to be doing what we’re doing.  It was fantastic.  We chatted it up with Murray for 2 hours, talking about the GOP and what needed to happen to gain the trust of people again, and he was just so warm and positive and helpful and enthusiastic that we left feeling like we had just had drinks with someone we’d known for like 15 years.

Plus, he’s a total gentleman who picked up the tab, took us a secret back way through the mall, PAST THE SHOE DEPARTMENT NO LESS (seriously could he know us any better???), and got us to our parking garage, where he made sure we were safe and secure before he took his leave of us.  LOVE.

Before we left the restaurant, we snapped a few pics with Murray, one of which is below.

All in all, a good day of political hobnobbing with two great Indiana politicians!

More Straight Shootin’ From Murray Clark

Indiana GOP Chairman Murray Clark released a statement about Obama’s news conference today which, in part, says the following words of awesomeness:

“I fail to understand how the President, as smart as he is, can convince himself that it’s appropriate to attempt to reform this huge part of our economy inside an arbitrary and dangerously condensed time frame. His original goal was three weeks; it’s not unusual for a family to take longer than that to purchase a house. Yet, despite calls from members of his own party to slow the pace, he continues to push a reckless timetable for his risky health care experiment.”

Let me just remind you all that the reason for Obama’s delay on releasing the Guantanamo report is because the White House wants to “get it right” and “do it carefully.”

But yeah. Forcing the biggest most impactful piece of legislation which could potentially change the entire landscape of our country? Let’s push that on through without reading it. Great idea!

Murray Clark Attempts To Use Logic And Reason With Indiana Congress

SP32-20090717-125822

The Indiana GOP Chairman, Murray Clark, who Daisy and I had the honor of meeting at the state dinner a couple weeks ago, has just sent a letter to the entire Indiana congressional delegation, basically pleading for them to use some freaking COMMON SENSE with respect to the healthcare reform legislation currently being shoved through the House.

It’s such a good letter that I’ve posted it here in its entirety, because it’s another shining example of the smart people we have as leaders in our state.  Read and learn, Democrat leadership.  Read and learn.

Dear Members of the Indiana Delegation:

Hoosiers around the state are watching with heightened interest as Congress begins the debate on the health care plan proposed by President Barack Obama. As the legislation makes its way through the process, many questions will continue to arise.

As Chairman of The Indiana Republican Party, I could easily write to you today with my own questions, or with a list of reasons why I disagree with the Democrat plan as it stands today. Instead, I write to you today in a bipartisan spirit to ask you to call for a more measured approach to this issue. Hoosiers have many questions, and these questions deserve more than hastily thought out answers.

Over the past week I have watched as the health care legislation proposed by the Democrats has sailed through the normal channels faster than anyone could have predicted. President Obama has called for a bill to pass both chambers in just three short weeks. While arguably a noble goal in his own mind, it seems to me to be extraordinarily rash. It leaves no time to answer the myriad of questions that surround this issue, no time to receive adequate feedback from Hoosier citizens who are counting on meaningful reform, and no time to reach sufficient legislative compromise.

There should be no rush to complete legislation in order to meet arbitrary timelines. Legislation worth doing today is still worth doing in September and October and beyond. Rather, the focus should be on ensuring that Hoosiers have access to affordable health care. Getting legislation done quickly is no substitute for getting it done correctly.
According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, this legislation costs well over $1 trillion, requires an increase in some income taxes by over 5%, and levies an 8% tax on many small businesses that can least afford it. Additionally, many questions remain as to the quality of care under such a system. As a former state legislator myself, I find it extremely troubling that Congress could even attempt to pass such a monstrous bill in such a short span of time.

No matter which party you represent in Congress, you all represent the great state of Indiana. For the sake of all Hoosiers, I hope you’ll join me in a bipartisan call to slow the incredibly fast and potential damaging speed at which this legislation is currently moving.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this letter, and I hope you will act in the best interests of all Indiana citizens.

Sincerely,

J. Murray Clark
Chairman
Indiana Republican Party

LOVE.
