LOVE.

I was directed earlier today to the following Letter to the Editor for the Indianapolis Star. And I love it, and thought you might too. Here’s the text:

In the Associated Press article commemorating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the wall dividing Berlin, various people are praised for their role in those events. Our president deigned to comment on “sacrifices that made it (the fall) possible.”

Elsewhere, Barack Obama, demonstrating his usual detachment and ideological slant, stated that the opening of the wall was the beginning of “globalization,” as if the breakdown of Communism was not worthy of a single comment. What is particularly galling about the AP article is the fact that there is not a single mention of President Ronald Reagan even though he was the man whose words and actions made liberation of Eastern Europe and the unification of Germany possible. And, of course, it was the American defense of Western Europe over the decades that also made those things possible.

Instead of diminishing the role the United States played in the events of that time, instead of “cleansing” history, the AP and the current president would do well to remember the magnanimity and, yes, the greatness of the man who did not hesitate referring to the Soviet Union as the “Evil Empire,” to the horror of the elites.

Letting A Terror Bomber And Leader Of Murdering Group Speak At UMass = “Academic Freedom”

A terror bomber who served 18 years in federal prison will be allowed to speak at the University of Massachusetts on Thursday — after his speech had been canceled — because a group of faculty members decided to invite him and the university maintains it must fulfill its commitment to “academic freedom.”

You get that? Academic FREEDOM. Yeeaaaah.

This dude – Raymond Luc Levasseur – is the proud title holder for longest criminal trial in Massachusetts history. He led a group called the United Freedom Front – a group who did a lot of really lovely things, such as bombings and killing a New Jersey State trooper and attempting to kill some Massachusetts State Troopers as well. You know. No biggie. Let’s just let him get out of jail and talk to some university students. That’d be awesome. In fact, I know that I’d be thrillled to see my stepdaughter’s tuition money being directed at something as awesome as this. GAWD. Someone please pass the Tums.

Rick Brown, president of the State Police Association of Massachusetts, is protesting. And rightly so. He thinks the whole thing is absurd, because, well, IT IS. And, it was cancelled for a little while, at least – by the GOVERNOR OF MASSACHUSETTS, no less. But then, a bunch of facutly members got it back on the docket, claiming that NOT having him come speak would be squelching that “academic freedom” thing. Well, Boo. Freakin. Hoo. Tell that to Donna Lamonaco, bleeding hearts – the wife of Phil, that New Jersey state trooper who was fatally shot by members of the United Freedom Front in 1981.

So, this piece of garbage gets to talk to UMass students. But you remember that group of conservative students who I wrote about this week – you know, the ones shut down over that mock Berlin Wall thing? Um, where in the hell is the academic freedom there? Anyone else see the absolute double-standard here?

Welcome to the New America, everyone. Take a whiff. It smells like a whole lot like steaming monkey poo.

P.S. – You SUCK, UMass.

More Conservative-Minded Squelching. This Time At A University. I Know…I’m Shocked, Too.

A bunch of Washington University students were shut down on the 20-year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. It’s a conservative group – go figure – that built a gulag complete with prisoners, guards and barb wire.

Yeah. The school shut it down.

Here’s the video explaining how they were shut down because “the staff said it was offensive and that things weren’t really that bad in the Soviet Union.”

Gee. I wonder if those staff members were liberal. Perplexing….

Nice double-standard, libs. I’m sure this would’ve been shut down as quickly had it been a rally against the war or that “hatemongering” Bush you all love so much.

Bo Didn’t Go To The Anniversary Of The Fall Of The Berlin Wall, But Still Managed To Make It All About Him

He didn’t go. I mean, it’s not really that important, people. Not as important as say the Olympic bid or golfing or picking out a dog. You know. It’s just the fall of the Berlin Wall. Geez.

I read that the Russian President even got off his butt and made it there. Go figure.

But, the Messiah Bo DID manage to send a video of himself, all telepromptered and choreographed and, of course – ALL ABOUT HIM.

He said to the crowd, “Few would have seen on that day that… that their American ally would be led by a man of African descent.”

And then he said jack squat about Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher. Because why would he? It’s all about HIM.

Stay classy, Bo. Really.

Trip To Pick Up The Peace Prize? All Over It. Trip To Commemorate The Fall Of The Berlin Wall? Not So Much.

According to this, Obama has declined German Chancellor Merkel’s invitation to attend the 20th anniversary celebration of the fall of the Berlin wall taking place in early November.  Emergency Back-Up President Hillary Clinton will go in his place.

Let’s review.  Obama takes time to go to Copenhagen to plea for the ability to watch the Olympics out of his old backyard?  Check.  Obama takes time to head to Oslo to accept the Nobel Peace Prize which he so richly (snort) deserves?  Check.  Obama clears his schedule to participate in one of the most significant anniversary celebrations of this generation?  Umm…no.

Perhaps that interferes with date night.

As the commentary rightly points out, the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of communism in Europe was kiiiind of a big deal.  Unfortunately, it was an event for which Obama couldn’t bring himself to give America even the tiniest bit of credit, when he spoke in Berlin during his campaign.  Then, he credited the fall of the wall to the “world standing as one, ” and the number of times he mentioned Reagan or Kennedy topped out at a whopping zero.

I guess we know where Obama’s priorities are.  Hope Michelle’s got herself a nice sleeveless number picked out for the Nobel awards ceremony.
