That post title was nearly impossible to type without giggling.
Obviously, it’s a completely false statement, because unions haven’t cared about their members in forever. What they ARE spending their money on, actually, and lots of it, is the 2010 elections.
The source link above describes in some detail how SEIU, AFSCME and AFL-CIO will be spending over ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS on keeping Democratic incumbents in office.
The president of AFSCME said, “We have got to protect the incumbency in the House. We have got to protect the incumbency in the Senate. It is going to be hard. Those tea-baggers are out there. There is an anti-incumbency mood out there.”
Those tea-baggers are out there, you guys. This is what he Actually Said. Although since the president of the COUNTRY is using that word freely now, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.
One particular candidate that the unions hope to save is Harry Reid, and they’re already getting started. An AFL-CIO representative said, “It’s our single focus. Harry Reid has done more for the state — more than anyone in history.” The union is planning on having its workers lobby other workers directly, do some door-to-door campaigning, and then send out a bunch of mail. For Harry Reid. It just stuns me that anyone would go to such lengths to rehire someone so patently stupid.
Barbara Boxer is another senator getting union help. A rep from the California Labor Federation said, “We are going to devote more resources to the 2010 campaign than we have ever done in any prior campaign.”
All of this leads me to wonder if Obama still means it when he says this:
I suspect union spending is juuuuuust fine with him.
