Yeah. About All That Fraud And Abuse And Waste.

 2009-10-01_203816

According to this, Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee nixed a plan which would require applicants for Medicaid to show proof of citizenship. And because they weren’t content to ONLY make it easier for illegal immigrants to access Medicaid, TODAY they voted on an amendment which would have put off any expansions of Medicaid until such time as they’d gotten their error/fraud rate down to 3.9% (versus 10%, which apparently is the norm).

Here’s how the vote played out:

In favor of reducing fraud/abuse/waste before expansion: 10 Senators (all Republicans)

Against reducing fraud/abuse/waste before expansion: 13 Senators (all Democrats)

And just so I’m clear, it’s the DEMOCRATS who are insisting that savings from stopping fraud/abuse/waste is what’s going to pay for their healthcare plan, right?

Is anyone else feeling like they’re living in Bizarro World? Or is that just me?

I Have An Idea!

I’ve been thinking, after watching Rep. Wasserman Schultz (D-FL-imsy Argument) about how Democrats could convince me that their plan is truly deficit-neutral.

I think they should scrap any changes to the current healthcare system for a full year. Drop all bills moving through committees right now, and actually work on fixing all of the fraud, waste, and abuse that they claim is going to be the source of the funding for their programs. And then, they should set aside all of the billions of dollars they save by cutting fraud, waste, and abuse, into an interest-bearing savings account. And, after a year, if they have enough money saved up, or can show a trend of savings they’re seeing related to eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse, they can start crafting up their bills again.

Thoughts?

P.S. Focusing on prevention is noble, admirable, aaaaand a total joke. See here.
