They're a good thing.
I agree with Rand Paul, and I also think majordawg did a good job summing up the situation. I do have one issue with both takes, however. It's not only the President who is complaining about this. Boehner has had multiple press conferences where he has lamented the sequester, and every time he mentions it, he calls it "Obama's sequester." More Republicans voted for the deal in 2011 than Dems did (176 vs. 95). I believe that the GOP should own this, tout it and say this is just a down payment, we need to cut even more. The sequester is a very small percentage of the $3 trillion in spending. Spending cuts are what the GOP ran on in the presidential election, and that's what is happening. More cuts should be in our future. The GOP should be declaring victory, not crying on the House floor the way that Boehner has been doing.
It tells me that this President is blind to the fact that we DO have a spending problem. A massive one.
It's time for the Republicans to start pushing back, and loudly, about the real reason we are at this point: NO BUDGET FROM THE SENATE since Obama took office! The House should force the Senate's hand on the budget, through the courts if necessary.
Not only are we still wasting and spending money like a bunch of drunken sailors, there are legions of items that have been funded for decades that are blatantly in violation of the Constitution.
