According to this, David Cox Sr, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, is dissatisfied with Obama's proposal to raise federal employees' pay by 1%, saying that it's "simply not enough" and "absolutely unconscionable."
The AFGE is the biggest federal employee union, and federal wages have been frozen since 2011. You know, just like most private industry wages. That little fact seems to escape David Cox.
He whined, "It is not enough to allow federal employees to make up lost ground from two-plus years of frozen pay. It is not enough to allow workers, most of whom earn very modest salaries ranging from $24,000 to $70,000, to maintain living standards. And it is not enough to send a message with any kind of clarity that the administration values the federal workforce and doesn't believe it should continue to bear an enormously disproportionate share of deficit reduction."
You know what my reaction to that is? "WAAAAAAAAH." Does he have any idea how completely out of touch with the REGULAR WORKFORCE this all makes him sound? Why in the holy hizzell does this clown think federal employees "bear an enormously disproportionate share of deficit reduction?" Has he SEEN our economy?
And David Cox isn't the only union boss b*tching. The director of AFSCME said, "While the president’s proposal for a 1 percent pay increase for federal workers in 2014 is better than a pay freeze, I don’t feel like jumping and shouting for joy.” Awwww. Poor AFSCME. Woe is them.
In any case, it's unlikely that House Republicans will agree to an increase in pay for federal workers. As the sourcelink indicates, Rep. Darrell Issa said that a pay raise isn't necessary and simply wastes taxpayer money. Because apparently, Darrell Issa is one of a handful of congressional leaders who has an Actual Brain.
