Remember How We Were Going To Hire An Intern?

Written by

So, you know how we have been interviewing for interns? We even ended up with a Wall of Shame entry as a result of our intern shout-out on Facebook.  EPIC!

Anyway, we had an awesome response to our ad!  So awesome, in fact, that we had to limit it to ONLY college students, even though we had people of all ages and professions apply.  And even when we limited it, it was STILL super hard to choose from the amazing people who applied.  We are basically blown away by the awesomeness of our entire clever and competent community.  Seriously.  I recruit people for a LIVING, and have to decline people for jobs pretty much on a daily basis, but declining ANYONE for our internship was super hard, because we're just so appreciative that anyone wants to work with two dorks like us to begin with.

ANYWAY.

We ended up hiring FOUR INTERNS, you guys.  Partly because it was so hard to choose, but partly because the four interns we've hired were all irresistible in their own special ways.  We are so excited to introduce them to you.

First, there's "Reagan", our lone local intern, who is currently a student at Indiana University (Kokomo), and who wrote to us and said, "Being a conservative, female, twenty year old college student makes me weird.  It makes me the oddball in class discussions and students' choice papers.  It makes me stand out.  The most important thing being a conservative, female, twenty year old college student makes me is proud."  LOVE THAT SO MUCH.

Reagan was involved in the Young Republicans during her first year of college at the University of Evansville,  was part of her high school's Young Republicans club, and held a previous internship as a journalist for a newspaper.  Plus, she's precious.

Next up, we have "Maria."  Maria actually inquired about internship opportunities with us a few months ago, and we've been keeping her in our back pocket since then until the timing was right.  Maria is a freshman at an all-girls' liberal arts (and MEGA LIBERAL) college in Virginia.  It's a school that invited Sandra Fluke to speak at it, even. So the fact that Maria maintains her sanity in that environment is super commendable.  She's expecting to double major in political science and communications, and is on a Creative Talent Scholarship, after being involved on her high school yearbook publication team and winning State Championships for it all four years.

She's a student leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and plays golf for her college. She's also the kind of adorable that makes you want to hug her and simultaneously punch her in the face for hogging so much of the gorgeous.  LOOK.

And because we couldn't very well have four interns without ANY testosterone, we're delighted to introduce you to "Tex."  We were pretty much sold on Tex as soon as we read his cover letter.  The first paragraph read, "Mock and Daisy - I am a born and raised Texan, I own several firearms, Ron Paul delivered me at birth (yet I still voted for Mitt), and I am an advertising and public relations major at Liberty University in Virginia."

HELLO.  It was a no brainer that we had to talk to him.  And when we did?  He was all, "Yes ma'am" and "No ma'am" and just full of Texas charm and manners. He has the benefit of attending one of the top ten most conservative colleges in the country, so he's not quite as out of his element as our three other interns are.

And lastly, but certainly not leastly, we have "Chiquita." When Chiquita applied for our internship, we were both baffled and delighted.  Chiquita is an accomplished Hollywood actress with a resume that made Daisy and me feel ENORMOUSLY INADEQUATE.  She's been in tons of popular films and tv shows, but also has achieved incredible success in the world of sports/fitness.  One of our first questions for her was, "Why in the world do you want to work with two dorks like us?"  And you know what she said?  She said she was "encouraged by our work" and that it was "inspiring to me, as a young woman, to see other women being bold in the name of conservatism, especially in a day when it is so unnecessarily frowned upon." OMG.

Chiquita currently attends Pepperdine University, and she's double majoring in Business Administration and Sports Medicine. This is in addition to continuing her acting career.  Daisy and I were pretty much blown away by her maturity, her grace, and her desire to spend any time at all working with us considering how full her life already is.  We're so happy that she's allowing us to share her photo, as it's not a particularly easy thing to be a conservative actress in Hollywood!

We have many many plans for these four amazing young conservatives.  We're excited to have Reagan and Maria put their research and creative skills to use for us on a special project we're working on.  We are hoping to connect Tex with our awesomesaucy webmaster as well as have him work on some graphics for our store.  And we're anticipating some really awesome guest posts from Chiquita, as well as some PR-related assignments.  In short, WE SO TOTALLY SCORED with these interns, you guys.

Please welcome them.  Even though you might not necessarily see what they're doing on a day to day basis, we know they're going to be a HUGE help to us Chicks.  And their enthusiasm for conservatism and for two dorks like us gives us hope for the future in a big way.

Welcome aboard, you fabulous four! smiley
