I got the following email yesterday from the adorable chick pictured above, and wanted to share it with y'all:
My name is Rachel and I am a 22 year old freelance writer and recent graduate of the University of Delaware. (The two Blue Hen claims to fame are Joe B and Joe Flacco, and needless to say I’m more proud of the latter than the former.) I love what you girls do! Thanks for giving voice to the beliefs, opinions, and daily frustrations of conservative women alike -- finally!! As a Christian conservative girl in a liberal university, I rarely fit in when classroom debate would take a political turn. Last year I made a student music video dedicated to military families, which ironically debuted at our film festival the same week that Seal Team Six killed Osama Bin Laden. I was enrolled in my senior film seminar at the time and with my professor's permission, showcased it to the class. The video sparked a heated discussion - - quelle surprise! My opinion has always been that regardless of one’s political affiliation or ideological stance on war, if someone is sacrificing their life to protect your freedom, you support them. My liberal lemming classmates did not agree, and I found myself to be the only person in the room saying that the radical jihadist's being gone was a good thing. I am unshakable in my support of the military and wish we had a better Commander in Chief. Le sigh. Until then, thanks for what you lovely ladies do and keep up the good work! I have posted a link to the music video below; please feel free to share and let me know what you think. I hope you like it!
Best to you,
Rachel
I cannot begin to express to you how much I love to hear from young women like Rachel, who are finding their political voices, and using them to "sing" - (as our speaker Susan Brooks said we should do at our Meet and Greet.)
I watched Rachel's video, and thought it was really touching, and responded to her that I'd post it today. Her response was equally as precious as her initial email:
I want you to know I completely queened out upon reading your email. Thank you thank you thank you to the moon and back! I love it when I get positive feedback on my little project, so your encouragement means a lot to me! I would be honored if you would share the video on your website/page/whatever. And please use my full name; I have a short documentary about homelessness coming out in the spring and would love to get the word out. I guess along with politics I’m also in love with story-telling and have been fortunate to have some pretty inspiring characters share theirs with me this summer. I will continue to follow COTR and share it with as many people as I can, you ladies are wonderful!
Keep in touch,
Rachel
Enjoy Rachel Diehm's video - a tribute to men and women in uniform. And give her some love/encouragement in the comments, won't you? We need lots lots lots more Rachels out there in our political choir. ![]()
