I don't know about you guys, but all of my liberal friends have spent the last three + years bitching and moaning about how Republicans are the party of "no," unwilling to reach across the aisle to save this country from hurling itself off a fiscal cliff.
In Reality Land, it's the left who seems to want to drive our car off a cliff, and a lot of them seem to be looking forward to doing so. And I won't lie - that creeps me out a little, in addition to making me want to punch them in the face.
Two days after the election, Obama's favorite economist, Paul Krugman, set the tone for the intransigent left in a column titled: "Let's not make a deal." Boiled down, his advice to Obama was this: Don't give in to any Republican demands, even if doing so would "inflict damage on a still-shaky economy." After all, Obama would be better positioned to "weather any blowback from economic troubles."
Robert Kuttner, co-founder of the liberal American Prospect magazine, suggests Obama should just sit it out, let all the Bush tax cuts expire, the automatic spending cuts kick in and expect public pressure to force Republicans to give in entirely.
The left-wing Daily Kos called any kind of "grand bargain" between Obama and the GOP a "Great Betrayal."
And several Democratic lawmakers have suggested that the correct approach would be to let the country go over the fiscal cliff, since that will only strengthen Obama's position. "It's a hand Democrats are looking forward to playing," according to the liberal Huffington Post "news" site.
You see, liberals think that Obama-the-Dictator will be somehow empowered by us careening into Greece-like Craptasticland. And as for that thing called compromise, well, it's a notion that only applies to the GOP, apparently. Like everything else in this country, the left is exempt from accountability.
Compromise SHMROMPROMISE, suckers.
The jury's still out on whether or not Dear Leader will heed the advice of his jackwagon brigade, or if he'll find a shred of common sense (hidden somewhere near his lost academic transcripts) to help him understand BASIC FREAKIN MATH and actually work with Republicans.
While I'd like to be a glass-half-full kind of gal here, I'm reminded of all those times that Dear has dropped a big ol' deuce on the Constitution, and I also remember that the left has no intention of EVER cutting back on their precious entitlement programs - including the train wreck that is Obamacare.
So, that glass? It's now less than half empty.
But you just keep on thinking that the GOP is incapable of bending, libs. And while you're acting, just keep on pretending that you love this country, too.
