See that captivating super model pictured above? Yes. That's a FEMALE. For real.
That's New Hampshire State Rep Cynthia Chase. And according to this, she wants to use her legislative powers, along with her fellow legislators, to restrict the freedoms of conservatives and libertarians who are part of the Free State Project.
Free Staters are those who are part of a project to move 20,000 conservative/libertarian people to New Hampshire so that they can create communities driven by conservative ideals. New Hampshire was chosen as their destination because it's got a relatively small population which could be majorly impacted by the influx of 20,000 new conservative folks. You can read all about them right here. From what I can tell, it's a pretty harmless group of people just looking for a place that they can "exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property." They want to see reductions in taxes and regulations, government reform, the expansion of individual rights and free markets, and the restoration of liberty. In other words, they are NORMAL, RATIONAL, REASONABLE AMERICANS who cherish the very things this country was founded on.
But to Cynthia Chase? Those Free Staters are "the single biggest threat the state is facing today."
I'm not even kidding. She wrote a post that said (emphasis mine):
"In the opinion of this Democrat, Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today. There is, legally, nothing we can do to prevent them from moving here to take over the state, which is their openly stated goal. In this country you can move anywhere you choose and they have that same right. What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming that some will choose not to come, and some may actually leave. One way is to pass measures that will restrict the 'freedoms' that they think they will find here. Another is to shine the bright light of publicity on who they are and why they are coming."
I don't know about you all, but Cynthia Chase sounds like a complete wackjob. I don't even want to THINK about what her specific ideas are for "making New Hampshire unwelcoming." Maybe they include photos of her in a bikini splattered across every state border entry point or something.
Here's the thing. If she wants to "pass measures that will restrict the 'freedoms'" that Free Staters think they'll find in New Hampshire, then ultimately that means she'd have to pass measures that would restrict EVERYONE's freedoms, right? Because how else could she do what she proposes? The fact that she WANTS to target conservatives, and ONLY conservatives, for freedom-restricting laws is so telling, and so positively DEMOCRATIC of her.
Like the original sourcelink pointed out, "Imagine if a legislator had written a blog post targeting the freedoms of gays, or women, or some other minority? One would think that the media would go wild with such a story. But here we have an elected official suggesting that government be used in the United States of America to eliminate freedoms for certain citizens in order to gain political control and the media is silent."
We shouldn't be the least bit surprised by that, because it's par for the liberal course. They're tolerant and open-minded, as long as you think exactly like them.
GAWD.
