According to this, Hobby Lobby is just flat not going to comply with the Obamacare mandate which forces employers to provide certain kinds of contraception coverage under their employee insurance plans.
Earlier this week, Supreme Court Justice (OMG does it pain me to type that) Sonia Sotomayor rejected an emergency request for an injunction to prevent HHS from enforcing the contraception mandate on Hobby Lobby’s Catholic owners, claiming that Hobby Lobby "didn't meet the standards" for an injunction. Whatever that means. I'm no math wizard, but it seems to me that being subjected to fines of $1.3 million PER DAY would classify as "suffering irreparable harm" which is one of the standards to meet to qualify for an injunction.
An attorney for Hobby Lobby said, "They're not going to comply with the mandate. They're not going to offer coverage for abortion-inducing drugs in the insurance plan."
And there you have it.
Hobby Lobby will continue to fight this through the regular legal channels, and in the meantime, we'll have to hope that a request for an injunction lands on the desk of a Justice who ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDS THE LAW.
Rock on, Hobby Lobby. ROCK ON.
