Another Reason To Love Starbucks…
Written by Daisy // January 24, 2012 // The Makeover And/Or Miscellaneous // 35 Comments
I’m a Starbucks addict. In fact, whenever we pass Starbucks, my 23-month old Dandelion will point and scream, “Mommy! Coffee!” I fully admit my addiction, and I embrace it. Because there have been many days where a venti-soy-latte-two-sweet-and-lows-no-foam are the only thing that have gotten me through. I’m just sayin.
With that said, I was SO PLEASED to see that Starbucks is upholding my Constitutional rights – specifically that one right to bear arms. And equally irritated that there is a group that wants to squelch it.
The National Gun Victim’s Action Council is organizing a day-long boycott of Starbucks on Valentines Day. Why, you ask? Well, Starbucks has upheld individual’s Constitutional rights in their stores, and that apparently pisses anti-gun liberals off.
Currently, Starbucks allows guns and assault weapons to be openly carried in its stores (in 43 states) and concealed and carried in its stores (in 49 states). Starbucks’ compliance with the National Rifle Association’s Pro-Gun Agenda was exposed in 2010 when members of the “open carry” movement began meeting in popular chains, such as California Pizza Kitchen, Peets, IKEA, Disney and Starbucks openly carrying their handguns and assault rifles.
To protect their customers and employees, all of the retail chains—except for Starbucks— banned guns from being carried in their stores.
“Starbucks allowing guns to be carried in thousands of their stores significantly increases everyone’s risk of being a victim of gun violence,” says Elliot Fineman, CEO of the NGAC. “Open and conceal and carry are among the reasons there are 12,000 gun homicides each year in the U.S. If we had England’s gun laws we would expect 375 gun homicides each year—97% less than we have. England’s gun laws are based on protecting public safety, ours on maximizing sales for the gun industry.”
Starbucks has the legal right to ban guns but despite having been petitioned by thousands, asked at a shareholder meeting, and a direct appeal made to their Board, Starbucks clings to this policy that puts millions of Americans at risk every day and encourages the spread of guns being carried in public.
Boo freakin hoo.
And these folks think that they’re going to take Starbucks down by boycotting for a day. This is what they had to say about their “impact”:
“Starbucks steadfast support of the NRA’s lethal pro-gun agenda damages its ‘socially conscious company’ brand. Further,” adds Fineman, “Monte Carlo Simulation risk analysis indicates that 90% of the time, our boycott will reduce Starbucks stock price by an amount no rational company would allow.”
Yes, because “socially conscious” equates to someone else making decisions for you. And nothing says “socially conscious” like trying to take down a shining example of capitalistic success, right?
Jackwagons.
So, I’m urging all of you clever and competent readers – Go to Starbucks on February 14th, buy yourself a big cup o’ joe and a scone, and stick it to these anti-Second-Amendment hippies. Or if you get a wild hair, write them directly to let them know that they are awesome to stand up to liberal tyranny. I plan on giving them my business at least TWICE that day, actually, just to let them know that I appreciate them for appreciating my INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM AND LIBERTY.
And if you really want to go all-out, feel free to buy “I love guns and coffee” merchandise here. Because, well, capitalism. That’s why.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Guns and coffee.

Ok, I don’t have enough hands to cling to my Bible, my gun, AND my coffee!
#ineedathirdhand
While I’m a Tim Horton’s gal myself, I will spend the extra $$$ and get Starbucks that day!
I typically work from home, but have to go into the office on the 14th. I will be there in the morning and after lunch and maybe later in the day.
“venti-soy-latte-two-sweet-and-lows-no-foam ” YUK!
I will buy coffee that day. No problem!
i WISH that we had one near us!!! maybe i’ll just go buy one of their bottled coffees, drink it, then shoot the bottle off of a fence post at 200 yards. yea, that!
“If we had England’s gun laws we would expect 375 gun homicides each year”. Seriously? I would guess that most of the “gun homicides” are committed by people who do not have a permit of any kind——you know, those criminals who do not obtain their guns legally. Morons.
I’m not a coffee drinker, but perhaps I will visit our local Starbucks on that day for a scone and non-coffee beverage.
I find the Tazo Chai Latte with Mocha makes my hands steadier when I shoot.
Nice little piece of advice for the would be robbers. You may want to avoid Starbucks.
They should make up signs for all their stores.
WARNING TO ROBBERS!
Starbucks has gone through great lengths to assure our customers may exercise their second amendment right while in our stores. At any given time it is expected that several of them will be packing some serious firepower and are proficient at hitting their target. So before entering in an attempt to rob this store, ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky?
I don’t drink coffee but I will go get something on the 14th.
I have a friend who is a police officer in our town and he posted this story last night on his Facebook page and said: “I dont care if the coffee taste like pig crap cooked in goat guts I am now a fan and buyer of Starbucks coffee.” Then one of his friends added this comment: “As for the mental midgets who want England’s gun laws…there are daily flights to London from most airports in America! We won’t miss you!”
And we are all planning a trip to our local Starbucks on Valentine’s Day.
Yeah, BB, everytime I see one of those signs that say “No Guns Allowed” I always think that what it really says is “Rob Me, Please”.
Had a meeting there last night, traditionally not a big tea drinker, but every since I discovered a daily venti-Chinese Green Tea, with a couple of packs of honey, helped knock out a cold I had brewing last fall, I have been hooked every since.
for all us non coffee drinkers?
it’s the hot chocolate for me and a scone that day!
whoo-hoo!!
Let’s not get too excited, folks. Starbucks is NOT doing this to support the 2nd amendment. They’re doing it because several years ago, they didn’t have a consistent policy on it, and got a lot of complaints from enough gun owners that they decided to adopt a “as long as you’re not breaking the law, we won’t prohibit it” position.

@Gene – you don’t have a Starbucks near you? Where do you live – the moon??
Notice how Starbucks said they allow concealed carry in 49 states? Why not all 50? Because one state – JUST ONE STATE – does not allow it. That would be Illinois. And you know that with the strictest gun laws in the country, there is hardly any crime in Illinois. Yup, that’s right – google it. And until recently, guns weren’t allowed ANYWHERE (including your home) in Chicago. So you know, there was NO GUN CRIME in Chicago AT ALL. No murders. Not until a year ago, when keeping a gun in Chicago became legal. Yup, that’s right….All those years with no murders (by gun) in Chicago, up in smoke. Every state should adopt Illinois’s gun laws so they could have a crime rate as low as ours.
Me and my husband will definitely be at Starbucks on Valentine’s Day.

Is it wrong that I hope the other stores that banned guns get robbed? Hmmm…karma.
Amazing since Seattle, notoriously Liberal, is their headquarters. I really like their coffee. Frazier show played on it well.
I was trying to find that young woman that testified in Congress several years ago to encourage gun rights. She was with her parents and they were killed in a restaurant? Anyone remember?
@Bella That was the Luby’s massacre in Killeen, TX in 1991. Dr. Suzanna Hupp had left her gun in car. The shooter reloaded several times and still had ammo when he finally killed himself. It was the worst mass-shooting until VA Tech… which also had people saying they wished they were carrying but couldn’t because of the laws preventing guns on campus.
Not a coffee drinker, but bet I can find someone to buy coffee for that day… maybe my husband will get a COFFEE, Tea or Me for Valentine’s Day!
I’m curious. Does anyone have a the numbers on injuries and deaths caused by guns at Starbucks? I’m sure it must number into the ones or twos…..
I guess I’ll be hitting Star Bucks on the 14th…. I’ve also found an indoor shooting range a short distance from my house. I’ve never owned a pistol (rifle only) so I’ll be taking lessons and probably get a permit to carry…. After all, if Obama is re-elected we all know what is going to happen.
I don’t really care their motive; the fact that they’re not buckling under pressure is enough for me to buy coffee on the 14th.
I’m down for a Valentine’s coffee–and maybe even a mug. Saaaalute!
The thing I resent most about the anti gun dips is that they seem to think that I am a danger to society by carrying my gun.
I have no desire to commit a crime. I don’t want to shoot anybody. I hope nobody ever tries to shoot ME. I don’t want to get into a gun fight, be a cowboy, “play cop”, or practice quick draws and gun spins.
I have never committed a crime greater than shop lifting (before I got sober). My street crimes would be punished by parking tickets (and I’ve only had TWO of those).
Basically, what I’m saying is; I’M NOT A CRIMINAL!! So, please don’t try to turn me into one by implying that I am dangerous because I carry a firearm.
My friend just saved his own life last Wednesday by having not only one, but two concealed weapons on him when a couple of thugs decided to come in and rob his liquor store at gun point. Actually, since they came in the door shooting, I’m not really sure you could call that a robbery attempt, it seems more like a murder attempt…and I’m happy to report that these thugs are facing charges for both armed robbery and attempted murder. My friend, although he was shot and is recovering, would surely be dead had he not had both guns to protect himself.
As for Starbucks, sounds to me like it’s one of the safest places to be with all those people there ready, willing and able to protect me and mine…assuming that I forgot my firearm that day…but who am I kidding…I never forget it! lol!
I don’t know the number of injuries from guns at Starbucks, but I can tell you that the incidence of gun violence among conceal carry permit holders is probably about the same! When you jump through the hoops to carry a loaded weapon legally, the chances that you are going to do illegal things with it are pretty slight!
Urggh… I like their coffee, but they are apparently big Planned Parenthood supporters, so I have abstained of late… not that I have much opportunity to frequent a Starbuck’s here in the frozen North(ern Michigan). But I might have to make an exception. This is a step in the right direction, I suppose. Sadly, I won’t be anywhere near a Starbuck’s on Valentine’s day. Guess I’ll drop them a note of appreciation and maybe order some coffee online or sumthin’.
OH, HEY…what a coincidence that THIS (which happened on SUNDAY) seems to refute the standard “meme” that those who carry guns LEGALLY are the cause of all crime.
Seems to me that what conceal carry did in this instance was save the taxpayers TONS of money on a trial. To whit I say…WOOT!
Perfect line from the comments:
“Society will have only as much crime as it will tolerate.”
My husband and I both have permits to carry a weapon (and in Indiana and Kentucky the permits are just for carry — it doesn’t matter if you conceal or not). While I choose to not carry a weapon (mostly because they’re pretty weighty), my husband does. He has his weapon on him every time he steps out of the house. I’m sure a lot of the places we visit don’t allow you to carry firearms, but unless he sees a sign that expressly forbids it or they require you to check your weapon (like at Bass Pro or gun shows), he has it on him. No one ever knows. I imagine you’d be surprised at how many guns are actually around you in public at any given time, especially in states like Indiana and Texas where rural communities, agriculture, and lenient gun laws are prevalent.
I created a Facebook event for the 14th. Spread the word.
The lack of common sense or an actual brains here is killing me. It’s not the open carry or permitted concealed weapons you need to worry about. It’s the Illegal weapons, and the thugs breeding like rabbits that are the problem. I will visit Starbucks on Valentines day for sure now
Florida also has great gun laws thanks to Jeb Bush. Take a look at this.

I saw a bumper sticker today that had the picture of a handgun and said, “I don’t call 911.” Thought it was pretty cool.
