MSNBC Wonders Out Loud About Climate Change Causing Missouri Tornado
Written by Daisy // May 23, 2011 // The Makeover And/Or Miscellaneous // 36 Comments
One day after after a tornado killed over 100 people in Joplin, Missouri, some MSNBC teleprompter reader is playing Al-Gore-scientist. Because of COURSE she is.
Tamron Hall wondered aloud on “News Nation” today whether climate change was to blame for the rash of hurricanes and tornadoes that ravaged several states, including Missouri, over the last few months.
“What about climate change?” speculated Hall, interviewing Dr. Howard Bluestein. “You have many people who see these severe storms, and not just the tornadoes, but the strength of hurricanes and even severe storms, we’re getting hail and high winds right now from Texas, I believe, all the way through the Midwest. Is this a result of climate change or an effect of climate change?”
She wondered out loud, ya’ll.
Anyone remember when newscasters reported the NEWS and didn’t wonder crap out loud?
Neither do I.
Of course, Bluestein, an Actual Smart Person and meterology professor at the University of Oklahoma, made sure he pointed out that she probably shouldn’t stray from her handy-dandy teleprompter.
“I don’t think we can prove whether or not the occurrence of all these bad events this year are due to global warming whatsoever. They could be simply due to natural variability.”
But you see, Professor Bluestein. MSNBC doesn’t give a rat’s assular area about whether or not we can actually PROVE things. Facts are dumb…didn’t you know? It’s how she feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels about what she’s reading on the teleprompter. That’s news, baby.
Right, liberals….MSNBC is a news channel. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

OMG! Stop turning a natural disaster into something it’s not! Stupid morons! The people effected don’t give a crap if it was climate change or if someone flushed the toilet wrong! They’ve had their lives turned upside down and if, for one minute, that reporter gave a penny of her salary to make a difference then there might actually be some change!
I live about an hour and a half from Joplin. If they would let me in, I would be digging through the rubble barehanded. These idiots need to get out of the reality world and into the real world.
So, are Conservatives now the thought police regarding the climate change debate. Fox news and other conservative media often think out loud about things like birth certificates, who gets credit for killing Osama, tax cuts create jobs, Vaginae must be controlled by the government. I live a hour south of Joplin and I can’t remember in my 50 year life time the copious amount of rainy and tornadic weather we have experienced. Of course it might just have been a warm up for rapture a day late.
Yes, MSNBC is in fact correct. Climate change is caused entirely by Bush 43, Cheney and Haliburton. And big oil. And coal. And white male racist Tea Party members. And Sarah Palin. And red meat. And non-vegan existence in general. And a lack of soy milk chai. And plate tectonics, which is obviously cause by climate change and bush 43 and cheney and ……
Of course, and I’m just spit-balling here, I bet you can hardly tell sun spot activity, solar flares and mass ejection/eruptions are on the increase again.
Dear Robert, don’t get lost on your way to the next Left Wing rally.
Robert –
Vaginae? Really?
Stay classy, dude.
I just checked with Mr. Mock, and he informed me that he is the only person who has control of my vagina. PHEW – that was close. For a minute, I thought the government was in control of it.
Robert Speed – you, sir, are a moron.
Global warming is a SCAM! Weather happens sometimes it is just downright MEAN and NASTY doesn’t mean that it is anyone’s fault. I hate talking heads that want to push an agenda.
Gee Robert…I seem to remember these weather patterns happening in decades past. It’s part of the Midwest and South weather patterns.
Quit acting like tornadoes and hurricanes are something new. Look up and you might see Dorothy.
I guess I’m old enough to remember the doom and gloom predictions of an “ice age” heading our way in the mid 1970s. Newsweek put out an interesting article connecting the onslaught of tornadoes and the like to global COOLING. Gee – just the OPPOSITE of now. Have a look:

Those silly climate “scientists.” Such short memories these global warming fanatics have… or wait. They pawn this stuff off on the youngsters who lack critical thinking or research skills AND who don’t trust history. Pfft. Tsk tsk.
Oh, that article was published in 1975.
MSNBC does have a political agenda but so does Fox News.
Charles, why the fixation on Fox News? Is that the best you’ve got today?
I actually kind of like MSNBC, it’s like The Onion, just not on purpose.
Brenda: I’m just pointing out that MSNBC isn’t the only ‘news’ organization with a political agenda.
Charles: Yes, we know, because you never fail to bring it up here. Over and over and over again. We got it.
Your talking points are really coming in handy!
Other than Sean Hannity, tell us who has a political agenda on Fox News? Enlighten us, please!
Charles, you again sink to moral relativism… so if you can find one example of someone else doing it, then it’s OK. How about instead, you take a stand on what they’re doing? Right or wrong?
And really Charles? The “he started it” argument? I gave you SO much more credit than you deserve.
Brenda: You wrote, “Other than Sean Hannity, tell us who has a political agenda on Fox News? Enlighten us, please!”
Fox and Friends clearly does. I listen to that in the morning and they always seem to highlight stories that make Obama and democrats look bad. Of course, Glen Beck also has a bit of an agenda but with he and Hannity it’s more understandable as their shows are clearly opinion shows.
I’ve seen Shepard Smith’s show as well. He does seem ‘fair and balanced’.
So now Charles is telling us Democrats never do anything bad.
Really Charles?! Really?!
Laurel: You wrote, “So now Charles is telling us Democrats never do anything bad.”
I don’t think I said anything of the sort. Look at Bill Clinton and the whole Monica thing. Very bad. Hillary’s support of the Iraq war, in my mind at least, very bad. Dems fail as often as GOP’ers.
Let’s just say for argument’s sake that FOX is entirely biased to the right (which it’s not… this is for argument’s sake), why is that a problem when we all know ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN (there are more), and pretty much every newspaper except the Wall Street Journal are in the bag for the left?
Is this Communism, or can ONE media outlet be able to show BOTH sides without complaint or assault? Because sometimes, when I see comments like Charles’ and Shack’s the other day, I wonder if we ARE living in a communist country!
This reminds me of the time I was in the movie theater with a few of my liberal friends (who go to the movies to see every single Michael Moore movie ever made because they love him) who were horrified when a PAID AD came on before the movie for ticket sales for Beck & O’Reilly’s tour last year. You know… an ad. You don’t HAVE to buy the tickets, but since the tour took place IN MOVIE THEATERS they were advertising IN MOVIE THEATERS. Not that that matters, because you generally can advertise anywhere, last I checked. Anyway, one of my friends exclaimed “OMG, this should not be allowed!!!! I feel like complaining to management about this!”
Translation: If your view does not agree with mine, you should be silenced.
That’s communism, and that’s what I told my friends — and asked that they please pipe down because they sounded like a bunch of idiots and they were embarrassing me.
There is nothing unusual about the high winds in Texas. Every year, they wind picks up in March and doesn’t die down until June.
OMG, liberals are such tools, such easy, easy tools! I think the logic part of their brain has been supressed for so long it has atrophied beyond all repair.
Charles: “I don’t think I said anything of the sort. Look at Bill Clinton and the whole Monica thing. Very bad. Hillary’s support of the Iraq war, in my mind at least, very bad. Dems fail as often as GOP’ers.”
So then why is it slant if it is pointed out?
Charles I think you are a media lemming who thinks what he is told to think. Liberals are expected to dump on Fox, so you comply like the good little progressive.
Fox is by no means perfect, I catch mistakes, it just so happens at this time that they are better than the rest.
I am so sick of global warming being blamed for everything.
LLL has a nice link to an article that approximately 40 years ago we were in a cooling phase.
The Super Outbreak took place in April of 1974. No one ran around screaming, “the sky is falling!” This is a naturally recurring pattern for tornadoes.
I recently heard one of the “Deadliest Catch” fisherman make a joke about global warming. He basically inferred these scientists don’t know anything.
By the way, the Earth warms, it cools, warms, cools all in a very cyclical pattern. It is such a fallacy that we can have such a dangerous effect.
Notice how Laurel said “Fox makes mistakes but they are better than the rest” and not “MSNBC does it too, so there”………see the difference Charles. No moral relativism in what Laurel said. Get it???
The planet Jupiter, which is exponentially larger than Earth, experiences violent storms across its entire surface daily. Did I miss something, or did humans and cows travel there, alternately driving cars and flatulating, ultimately creating enough greenhouse gases to create these storms? If not, then maybe we ought revisit the whole “man-made global warming” hogwash!
Folks here are frequently accusing me of being a moral relativist. So much so that I’ve started to wonder if I really am. I found a definition:
“Moral relativism is the view that ethical standards, morality, and positions of right or wrong are culturally based and therefore subject to a person’s individual choice.”
This is not at all what I believe. As a Christian, I do believe in objective evil and sin. I’m not sure what comments of mine suggest I think that way. Let the accusations of ignorance fly, but I just don’t get it folks!
“I don’t think we can prove whether or not the occurrence of all these bad events this year are due to global warming whatsoever. They could be simply due to natural variability.”
What the hell? Since when has that ever stopped the alarmists in the past? And since when have they ever proved any of it, all they ever find are links, they never find proof. I’m amazed at that statement.
Charles…here is what you do. ALOT. The Chicks will post something that is absurd…like the current topic. And what do you do? You say…Fox /Republicans/Spongebob (pick your justification) does it. As if that makes it all right. What you have here is a form of moral relativism called NORMATIVE relativism, which means you find an example where you think makes it “normal” and therefore acceptable.
Quit finding examples of it being done before and take a friggin’ stand. Is it right? Is it wrong? WHY do you think that.
This might just be your switch. Instead of saying…”they did it too”, you are now being challenged to explain why “it” is right or wrong. And maybe then you’ll see that your justification for bad behavior doesn’t make the behavior acceptable.
Charles: I fail to understand why you are having such a hard time grasping moral relativism and by rote moral equivocation.
What’s not to understand?
Dan, you bring up an excellant point.
I was watching Rachael Maddow on MSNBC. Her story indicated that Bush 43, Dick Cheney and Halibuton traveled to Jupiter as part of the entirely false WMD agruement for Iraq II. All of the Bush/Cheney/Haliburton secret plans to blow up the the world trade center are buried on Jupiter, along with actual WMD’s they initially planted in Iraq to frame innocent Saddam Husein.
In order to make the trip, they all drove SUV’s. The SUVs were too heavy because of all of the guns and bibles. Thus, they consumed a lot of gasolene and produced carbon pollution on a massive scale.
Black Water operatives traveled with them, and they had a giagantic bar-b-que of non-vegan non-soy latte chai red meat foods. Afterwards, they trampled on the rights of women and minorities throughout our solar system in a systematic effort to deny intra-solar system species of the US Constitutionally guaranteed rights.
All that leads to one and only one conclusion – white republican tea party racists have caused global warming on Jupiter, Intergalactic Global Warming, and Fox News obviously advocates for them, hiding the incredible problems of Interglactic Global Warming.
We better get on that fast or the universe will overheat. Al Gore has personally written an intergalactic global warming model program consisting of 20 trillion lines of C-Sharp. It’s incredibly accurate and cannot be debated.
Carolyn: If I’ve given the impression that just because one side does something it’s okay for the other side to as well, I’m sorry. That’s not my intention.
I believe trying to masqurade your opinion off as news is wrong. It’s wrong when MSNBC does it and it’s wrong when Fox News does it. When I point out that your side does something when you call out my side for doing it, I’m not making excuses. I’m trying to point out that us liberals aren’t the only ones that are guilty.
Ah…but Charles, show me an example of you saying it’s wrong. You don’t. You never say it’s wrong. You just say that you guys do it (followed by the neener, neener, neener that’s implied).
So, I say again…take a stand and quit pointing fingers.
And…of course, I’m just kidding about the neener, neener, neener…

Why are Charles’ comments driving so much of this comment thread? ??? I thought this was about the post on the joke called global warming…. sheesh.. It’s nice to have a liberal / progressive type input, but this one is hijacked. LOL
