Guess Who Wants Mitch Daniels To Be President?

Written by  //  April 22, 2011  //  The Makeover And/Or Miscellaneous  //  26 Comments

I mean, besides me, of course.

It’s cutie patootie Paul Ryan. I think you’ve probably heard of him.

He’s totally ruling out a presidential run for himself right now, because he’s got young kids that he wants to spend time with, and I love this about him. But he says, about Mitch, “He would be a great president. He looks like your accountant, but that’s not so bad maybe.” And further, Paul Ryan believes that Mitch is really the only potential candidate who truly gets the Road Map principles. “Are there [other] people who right now know these issues, have the principles, have the courage of their convictions, and are willing and able to defend them? Nobody comes to my mind.”

Because Mitch’s name can’t be mentioned in the media without them rehashing the tired old “truce” argument, Paul Ryan was asked for his thoughts on it too. He said, “I don’t see it quite the same way…we don’t need to ask anybody to unilaterally disarm. I’m as pro-life as a person gets. You’re not going to have a truce. Judges are going to come up. Issues come up, they’re unavoidable, and I’m never going to not vote pro-life.”

The article suggests that this means Ryan and Mitch don’t “see eye to eye on the idea of truce” but in fact, if they’d simply LISTEN TO MITCH EXPLAIN THIS FOR THE ZILLIONTH TIME, they’d realize that they completely DO see eye to eye on it. Mitch would ALSO always vote pro-life, and has an incredibly strong pro-life voting record. He’s not asking anyone to surrender their opinions. He’s simply asking that some issues be momentarily tabled while we SAVE THE FREAKING COUNTRY FROM IMMINENT FINANCIAL DISASTER.

I will never ever ever understand why this continues to be so hard for people to grasp. Put out the house fire before fixing the broken windows, people.

But anyway, Paul Ryan believes Mitch is the man, and I’m all about that. And an endorsement from the Road Map creator is a good one indeed.

    Yeah!

    Run Mitch Run!

I also dont get the ‘right’ not grasping the fact that Rome is burning.

I am as pro life as it gets too.. and I would never ever vote for someone who is not. Mitch isnt going to spend one dime on abortion.. the man isnt going to spend any money period!

Some of us see taking the lives of babies as the house fire. Now, don’t get me wrong, if Daniels is the Republican candidate I will be voting for him, in fact I’d LOVE it if he is the nominee. On the issue of his comments, I think I understand what he means but I also understand why people would get upset at what they would perceive as him lessening the importance of making abortion illegal. If it were legal to kill babies within 2 hours after birth, we would be appalled and want that law changed immediately, in fact I think most of us would consider it MORE important that the federal budget, but the entire premise of being pro-life is based on the belief that EVERY life is of value and the the unborn are just as important as the newborn. Again, not attacking Mitch Daniels just giving a different perspective.

Melissa… I am Catholic, very much pro life. I believe abortion is an intrinsic evil that must be eliminated.

Mitch Daniels has a record. He is pro life… not just in words.. in deeds.

Some of the most vocal “pro life” candidates… dont have a record to back that up. To them.. its words and not deeds.

Regarding abortion, the country is split about 50/50 on the issue. A few years ago, they had a survey that showed more people being against abortion than being for abortion, but those numbers have now swung back the other way. Even among those who see abortion as “wrong” or “bad,” not all believe that abortion should be illegal from the moment of conception. Many people can see a fully-formed unborn baby on a sonogram, know that the baby has it’s own heartbeat, blood supply, and brain waves and recognize that this little person is a citizen deserving legal protection. That doesn’t mean that those same people believe that a small mass of undifferentiated, dividing cells deserve the same protection. However, many in the pro-life movement would ban “the pill” and other forms of contraception because they try to keep the embryo from implanting in the womb. I suspect that seventy percent of the people would fall somewhere between the extremes, but the extremes dominate the issue. Until we find a way to keep the extremes from dominating the issue, we aren’t going to solve the problem.

Instead of the burning house versus broken window analogy, the better analogy is that there are two burning houses. One of them is positioned in a way that we can’t get the fire trucks, hoses, or anything else to the house. For the time being, that house is simply going to burn. If we can’t save that house, do we let another house that we could save burn while we argue about the house that we can’t save? I interpret the “truce” comment as Mr. Daniels’s way of saying that we need to fight the fire that can be fought and save the house that can be saved.

I have always viewed Daniels’ “truce” statement to be one of intra-party unity, not one of surrendering all social issues to liberal Democrats. Am I wrong, ladies? I also can’t figure how people can’t tell the difference.

I believe this shows how intelligent and intuitive Paul Ryan truly is; deciding that now is not the time for him to run for president. He’s absolutely correct that Mitch would bring a business acumen to the office at a time when this nation needs to concentrate on it’s economy. As for the “truce” issue, it’s like the Quayle TOMATOE issue. The mainstream media and liberals (redundant, i know) made Dan Quayle ALL ABOUT his choice of spelling, instead of listening to his values and intelligence. Mitch is so very much more than his “truce” statement. Most of us with only a smidge of intelligence understood Quayle, and we certainly understand Mitch.

By the way, my mother came across an old packet (pre-Quayle faux pas) of Burpee seeds – yep, you guessed it! The word “TOMATOE SEEDS” was spelled out across it. Hmmmmm, go figure.

If the right makes the 2012 election all about the abortion issue ( and it seems to already be starting, again) we are doomed with four more years of Obama. Then we won’t have a country to save. I will be using my luggage. Just sayin.

  8. Lisa April 23, 2011 at 9:51 am ·

Ditto Peggy. These social issues have been argued for decades and are still not close to any resolution, so why keep beating our heads against a wall over something that will not be resolved anytime soon when there is a HUGE problem effecting every single one of us that actually has a chance at being fixed? I am pro life too, but let’s be real, Roe v. Wade is not getting overturned anytime soon.

  9. mimi April 23, 2011 at 10:11 am ·

Agree totally. I hate the way the press is pushing the 2008 retreads and Trump. I love Mitch thanks to reading your site. I also like Herman cain and Haley Barbour. We need to shake things up with new people and there are great candidates not being mentioned.

  10. Laurel April 23, 2011 at 10:20 am ·

IMO Daniels stepped in it with his comment because social issues are tied to fiscal issues. He could have extrapolated that out and said the same thing on the campaign trail and made his position more clear. But be aware just because you want to table those issues the left will not let that happen. For one it’s how they fire up their base, and for two they will not allow any any encroachment on any social issue…and folks there is more than one social issue besides abortion.

Personally I believe the right has gone about their attack on abortion in the wrong manner for decades. Repealing Roe vs. Wade is not going to do much to save lives. Abortion has been around for centuries and education really is the only way to solve that issue.

The social issues can cost a lot of money and be tied to fiscal responsibility. De-funding PP, NPR, PBS, NEA is fiscally responsible but doesn’t outlaw them either. And that is the short list, there is a much longer list of social issues that cost you a lot of money.

Having said all of that I want Daniels to run. I want to hear what he has to say. No one has won my vote yet.

  11. Flowerchick April 23, 2011 at 10:26 am ·

Lisa, you are right, sadly (IMO) Roe vs Wade is going nowhere.
I think the pro life movement knows that too.

With a Mitch Daniels as President, he is for states rights.. he is big on this. So … I think the pro life movement would have a big ally in the white house with Mitch. This issue should be in the hands of states anyway… IMO.

I wish the republicans would stop eating their own … Mitch is a conservative with a proven 6 year record…..and they are talking about him as if he is some huge RINO. Its ridiculous.

Mitch Daniels is my personal choice, and I say that as someone who will never pull the lever for a pro abortion candidate.

  12. Flowerchick April 23, 2011 at 10:39 am ·

Laurel… you are right, he needs to run. I think his voice of economic doom needs to be heard.

I hope this ‘truce’ comment will stop being the focus on Daniels and let him speak on what he is great at… financial turn around.

He would not fund those organizations……. what is funny to me…… the”blade” who cuts everything is not going to cut abortion funding, NPR and PBS and the others?
Of course he would. Only candidate I could say that about..

  13. Laurel April 23, 2011 at 10:53 am ·

Flowerchick: I will tell you if Huckabee continues his rant against Daniels over this he isn’t going to get my vote. He is the one stirring the pot along with his fellow compatriots. It will tell you all you need to know about him. He operates like the left.

  14. Flowerchick April 23, 2011 at 11:35 am ·

    Laurel…. I know!

The real enemy is sitting in the white house….and some on our side pick a fight with our own.

In all honestly my biggest concern, for right now — beyond wishing Obama would resign– is Trump playing the supporting role of Ross Perot part II in ‘Nightmare at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave 2012 – the Disaster Continues’.

I have no doubt that he’ll NOT get the nomination, but at the same time I’m concerned about his ego getting in the way and splitting the vote the same way that IDIOT Perot did. I believe it was Dr. Krauthammer that said Trump is the Repubs equivalent of Al Sharpton in wanting to make any and all debate about him, I completely agree.

WRT Gov Mitch Daniels, my wife speaks highly of him based on what she’s heard about him so I’m interested to see what he has to say. How has he been as Gov for the Great State of Indiana?

  16. Mockarena April 23, 2011 at 1:40 pm ·

Bob in NC – he’s been the Best. Governor. EVER. Simply do a search of his name on this site, and you’ll have a whole host of archived posts about him to read. :)

OBTW – I view anyone born after January 22, 1973 as a survivor. I would find it hard to believe that anyone who has lost a child or grandchild would be Pro choice.

  18. su-z-Q April 23, 2011 at 4:03 pm ·

60% (SIXTY PERCENT!!!!!!!!!) abortion rate among A.A.

    just sayin’

Margie Sanger would be so proud..

  19. su-z-Q April 23, 2011 at 4:15 pm ·

At this point in America, I don’t believe in Right and Left anymore.

It is as plain as RIGHT AND WRONG……GOOD AND EVIL…….doesn’t get clearer than that…

I have major interest in Mitch…proven track record…

but in the end…is it more important that “patty pro choice” is behind you? or more important that GOD is on your side???? I would put my money on the latter…”just sayin”

mountain mover or mouth mover…..hmmmm let me see..

  20. Mike April 23, 2011 at 4:36 pm ·

Paul Ryan is wrong. I’m for Daisy and Mock for Pres, and V.P., or Mock and Daisy for Pres. and V.P. You two would straighten this country around, and have fun doing it!

  21. genetics73 April 23, 2011 at 7:24 pm ·

    Run, Mr. Daniels!!!

It seems redundant, yet it bears repeating – those who seek a total ideological purity are not only naive; they are dangerous. Remember – Al Qaeda murderers are ideologically pure. To put it in less frightening terms: no candidate will be perfect, and I sincerely hope that none will attempt to be.

  22. Crispus Attucks April 23, 2011 at 8:42 pm ·

It’s in Mr. Priebus’s hands, Daniel’s is not going to compete with Romney for the inside track or party apparatus support, i.e. governors, senators, congress people ect. Daniels’s is too good a politician, he is not going to run and drag his family into this unless he knows he’s the ‘fair haired’ boy. If I was Daniels I wouldn’t annouce unti that was in place either…but it’s getting late..

Great find! Paul and Mitch could make a killer team. Those two are ready to retire the budget tweezers and break out the chainsaw.

SuzyQ.. agree.. abortion is disgusting and intrinsically evil. Margret Sangers dream has come true with AA.

However.. to fix our financial woes.. we will need people who dont agree on abortion to vote republican.
Nothing will be fixed unless there is a huge majority in Congress.

Daniels is pro life. His pro life record is strong.

  25. Susan Smith May 16, 2011 at 7:44 am ·

I too am a huge Mitch Daniels fan and I hope and pray he will run. Believe me when I say that I will mobilize, I will campaign, I will write, call, raise money, I will work like a dog to get him in the White House. I am pro-choice but care far more about ‘putting out the fire’ than about the rest right now. I’ll battle to the end to prevent our country from making abortions illegal, and I mean to the end of my days, but right now there are other things to worry about.
