Your Feel-Good Video Du Jour

Written by  //  April 19, 2011  //  The Makeover And/Or Miscellaneous  //  21 Comments

Mr. Daisy sent this to me yesterday, and it just made me so proud to be an American. I’m not a big baseball chick – never been a big fan – but I officially love Rick Monday now.

This video was taken at a game on April 25, 1976 at Dodger Stadium. Rick Monday – a Chicago Cubs player, “grabbed and secured the American flag from two Muslims attempting to burn our flag in the middle of the playing field.”

His description of the event is moving. I loved it and had to share.

God bless America.

I absolutely love this video! Like you, not a big baseball fan, but I’m a *huge* Rick Monday fan for what he did for the American flag!

I have vague memories of that. However, I did not recall that the burners were Muslim. Wow – even way back then…

I remember that….but sadly have to wonder if it happened again TODAY, if too many people fear “PC” repercussions to do the same thing……..

I didn’t think they were muslim. I just thought they were wacky. Hm. Interesting!

They weren’t reported as being Muslim. I read somewhere that the man, William Thomas (and his 11 year old son), was protesting the “mental incarceration” of his wife, whatever that means. I haven’t found any reports of what happened to them after they were arrested.

Which one of those Muslims was Barack Obama??

Great post, Ladies. Especially for today, as April 19, 1775 was the day of Paul Revere’s ride, the shot heard round the world, the start of the revelution….

Here is the Schoolhouse Rock video:

I was just in Boston two weeks ago. It makes you love those troublemakers who started this nation.

I heard Mr Monday interviewed last year. He said he still has the flag. And I wonder if the same thing would happen today as the players can’t even be bothered to stand at attention during the National Anthem and put their hands over their hearts.

As much as I love baseball and I’ve never seen this before! Thank you!

    Carolyn- I agree!! Weepy glees!
