You Know How Fast I’d Pull My Kid Out Of This School?

It’d be approximately 2 minutes after I found about this:
MANDATORY ARABIC? Unacceptable. ELECTIVE Arabic? By all means. Offer Arabic. I don’t give two crosshairs. But MANDATORY? Um – NO.
WTF.

Ohhh hell to the no. This is insane.
Definitely a WTF* moment.
*(Where Teaching Fails.)
Sure! I’ll learn Arabic as soon as we get to see Obama’s real birth certificate.
Its gonna cause a FLAP!!
I would love to teach a mandatory class in Arabic culture… but I’d be sure to include the part about how one of the richest and most intellectually and artistically blessed cultures in the history of the world, the culture that gave us huge advances in medicine and made modern mathematics possible, was hijacked by Islamic fundamentalism until all we have left today is a bitter, morally corrupt, repressive, empty shell that hates everything they’re not.
But I’m thinking that’s not what these poor kids are going to get shoved down their throats.
As a resident of Mansfield, TX, I’m APPALLED that they did not tell us about this and you better bet your bottom dollar they are going to have a hell of a time shoving this down the kids’ throats without parents pulling kids from that school—homeschooling is alive and well in this town!!—–parents are up in arms here over this and they will NOT get away with this, I can tell you that much!! Stay tuned!!
Kick some ass and take names, Shannonmari!!
Right there with you Lori in CA! Shannonmari – I would never have thought something this PC would have had its origin in Texas – you guys are usually so much more sensible than this… but I am glad people are fighting it!
Apparently now the program has been put on hold.
Honestly I can see the benefit of learning Arabic or Farsi since the future with the ME is not so bright. Mandatory? Not so much.
Another problem is I don’t exactly trust these guys to teach it. My daughter in college is currently going rounds with a liberal prof in International Relations who is touting that Islam has more rights for women then we do, and more rights than all other religions to boot. Personally I think he should convert already. I guess he missed this: http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=172669
One other thing. It was easy for them to do this since foreign language is a requirement. Like most things it begins with one step and the next step too far is so easy to take.
This is in Texas?!?! Why dont they first make English classes mandatory for a certain segment of the (illegal) population!!!!
Better yet, why dont we make learning English a priority for all immigrants??
That was my question exactly Janice. And, yes, I’d have my kid out of that school so fast, his head wouldn’t stop spinning til he graduated. And we wonder why private schools are becoming so popular.
This is a bunch of bull hockey…..
Why is the government giving our money to schools to teach Arabic?
And why do they say it is the language of the future? Is there someone at the White House that sees Arabic becoming our main language? Another example of the Federal government forcing their will on states and citizens. Time for a book burning in Mansfield. Nice big Arabic bonfire.
I agree, it’s ridiculous, but to whomever said it’s a “WTF, (Where Teaching Fails) Moment”, I take exception. The teachers have absolutely nothing to do with this. Administrators pull this crap and make all these decisions and just foist it upon the teachers. Teachers are merely pawns in situations like this. Please don’t blame the teachers.
I honestly think they simply applied for this and boom, they got the grant without really thinking through the ramifications of what they did–this is what many of us are saying here. Trust me, I would have never have thought our state, let alone our town, would have done something this “leftist!”
(Traditionally, Mansfield voters vote conservative and it’s rare for a Democrat to even get any office)
I do want to point out that I would have no issues with making this something as an ELECTIVE in *high school* and if a kid chooses to learn that about Arabic culture, I’d be fine with it. What I’m NOT fine with is that they are pushing this at 10 and 11 yr old kids (Intermediate schools here are 5th and 6th grades) and making it mandatory in those grades. It seems as if it’s an attempt to indoctrinate our children and NO way is this sitting well!
They are now saying that that they will be pulling back from just rolling this out and that the superintendent apologized for not informing parents of this——-yeah, now that they got caught, are getting a huge backlash from it and are in a big pot of boiling water with parents!
Personally, I would send the grant right back—it’s not like we need it! Trust me, I pay an arm and a leg in property taxes to live here!
In 1980, who would have believed that in just a few years, mainstream America would aspire to speak and act and dress and emulate the most crime ridden, most violent and most vile segment of our society, the black getto gangs. Yet here we are.
But we can already see the beginnings of the next fashion wave. People in the US are beginning to go in for the middle east muslim look, sound, etc. It is in its infancy now, but within 10 years or so, even ‘Christian’ churches will completely remodel to emulate the muslim styles. HEre me now and believe me later.
It’s already here Paul; some churches already have. Saw an article this week on christian churches putting the Koran in the pew with the bible…..Google Chrislam. Mansfield is small town west of Ft. Worth. I find it interesting that the Dept of Ed granted $1.3 million for this to Mansfield….start out small and unnoticed….not Texas….not on our watch!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20110208/tr_ac/7809716_arabic_studies_proposal_causes_uproar_in_mansfield_texas So now the program is on life support, but not dead yet. The People of Mansfield should be demanding the administrator who approved this abomination stand before the public and try to explain his reasoning (if any). I would also be asking the School Board to reconsider the stability of the Superintendent’s position.
steam is coming out of my ears. I could give to craps about kids learning Arabic however you don’t make it mandatory and you sure as heck don’t decide to not inform parents. WTH were they thinking?
So now the school system is denying the course was mandatory. http://www.mansfieldisd.org/departments/communications/news/10-11/february/arabicgrant.htm We now need to hear from the families who were at that meeting to determine if someone lead them to believe all the 10-11 year old kids would have to take this course of teaching.
