Flashback

I read this article and giggled.

Apparently, world renowned climatology expert (snort) Robert F. Kennedy Jr., wrote a column just last year about the lack of winter weather in DC. He lamented about the dramatic change in climate, the “anemic winters” and the scarcity of snow. He wistfully reminisced about sledding and building igloos in his backyard. He was chock full of nostalgia for ice skating. And he was downright contemptuous about the evil Exxon Mobil and its “carbon cronies” coming up with ways to purposefully deceive Americans so that they’d think global warming was “just a fantasy.”

I don’t need to tell you guys that DC is currently buried in snow, with more expected this week.

And what’s Robert F Kennedy Jr. saying about global warming today? (crickets)

Perhaps he’s out sledding.

  • Anecdotal memories mean nothing. Memories are incredibly maleable. Reliable data is the only legit source for info. I’m guessing Bobby made a grand total of ONE igloo when he was a kid and remembers it very fondly.

  • Um yeah… RFK Jr. can come help me dig out of all this NOVA snow, while he is here he can also help muck out my barn (since I can’t seem push the wheelbarrow in 30″ of snow and have to use a muck bucket and SLED to get the job done) and break the 1″ ice on my water buckets… Um yeah, Global Warming my ***.

  • Perhaps he should lay off of the drugs.

  • People confuse weather with climate, and in the process make themselves look foolish

  • Drugs and memory Laurel. Memory being one of the things that is delimited and selective in DeeCee. This is a major snow event and the next 48 hours may indeed carry it to the top of the DELMARVA list of winter disasters. But, the collective memories in those parts is so limited they can’t recall they labeled the blizzard of 1996 the event of the century. The authorities in those three states officially shut down their operations and forebade citizens from getting around. Being a Foosier (that’s a Hoosier from Florida) I figured their edict didn’t apply to me, so I rented a car at BWI and started ferrying stranded airline passengers to local hotels. The hotel limo drivers were forbidden to do so. I moved over 200 folks over roads that were officially impassable, but what did I know, most of my driving experience was in Florida where sand is the major impediment. Incidentally, local oldtimers could list a score of worse storms over the preceeding century. One of them being in 1993 – just three years prior to the then current event. I think “blizzard of the century” is some kind of code to extract disaster relief money from the Feds.
