So, you know that whole Obama administration decision to prosecute 9/11 terrorist scumbags in civilian court? Yeah. Not only is it insane, but it’s going to cost a lot of money. Not that Obama and his buddies give a rat’s ass, but it’s going to cost “more than $400 million to provide security if the pre-trial preparation and trial of the suspects in the Sept. 11 terror attacks takes two years, which insiders say is virtually certain, according to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”
Oh yeah, and if the trial goes beyond 2 years (which we all know it will, since lawyers like to draaaaaag things out as much as humanly possible), it’ll cost another projected $206 million annually.
And then there’s the whole resourcing issue. They’ll take normal, every day crime-fighting resources off the street of NYC to help with the trial, of course. And on top of that, there’s security. Which will be completely insane.
“Security is expected to include the closure of many streets around the court house, a very heavy uniformed police presence, snipers, heavy weapons teams, undercover police officers and a massive federal and local intelligence and counter terror operation.”
I’m sure that won’t cost any money, either. Nah.
Of course, they’re saying that New York taxpayers should not – and hopefully will not – get stuck with the bill on this. Because it’s a FEDERAL issue. And, that means that when it all comes down to it, we’re ALL stuck with the damn bill. I mean, the last time I checked, I pay federal taxes. I assume you do, too.
I guess when you’re used to spending like a drunken sailor on a 3-day binge, this kind of money seems like chump change. Funny how this administration talks about finding ways to scrimp and save in healthcare, yet this priority of theirs seems to be a viable expense.
Hope and change. Aw yeah.
But, Daisy, dear, don’t you understand that this whole process is designed to provide jobs? This is a perfect way to stimulate the economy! Think of all the catering and hotels and restaurants, not to mention extra duty for sex workers etc. Girl, you need to see the bigger picture!
You’re so right, genetics73. I mean, how narrow-minded could I be? It’s almost as lucrative as having the Olympics in NYC, right?
I warned of this during the Bush administration. It’s really a no brainer. Look at how much regular trials cost, then add all the money for intel and security. I don’t understand why people are so shocked at the price tag. A child should have been able to figure this one out.
The security bill might be a national thing, but the inconvenience factor is all ours. Street closures and extra security are never fun. And yes, they’re doing it all to keep us safe, but we could have more safety, and a whole lot less inconvenience if they just took him back to GITMO!
The more they proceed with this trial the less I like it. And I never liked it to begin with.
We’re doing a $hitload of stuff just to make terrorists like us. Wonder if it’ll work?
A quick glance at a city map of NYC reveals that this stupidity will result in massive gridlock right smack in the middle of the business center of the world. I’m thinking someone like Bloomberg ought to step up and demand a venue change to….oh, say DeeCee. Why not use the Capitol Building to hold the trials in? I can’t think of a group of people more deserving of being inconvenienced than Congress. Matter of fact, I’m also thinking that Nancy Pelosi ought to be forced to share her apartment with Khalid Sheik Mohammed.
Papa Kilo, this idea is brilliant. We should start a petition.
