Unfortunately, Washington doesn’t give a rat’s behind.
From the Gateway Pundit this morning, here’s John Boehner’s statement about the healthcare monkey poo legislation that’s been rammed through the first vote. In the wee hours of the morning, mind you.
“The American people have rejected the Democrats’ government-run approach to health care loudly and clearly, and it’s time to scrap Senator Reid’s bill and start over. The bill will fundamentally change something as personal and important as the relationship between a patient and a doctor, and yet Democrats are attempting to sneak the bill through before Christmas in the hopes the American people aren’t watching what they’re doing. Why? Because Senator Reid knows the more the American people find out about this bill, the more they oppose it.
“The Democrats’ government takeover of health care will increase premiums for families and small businesses, raise taxes during a recession, cut seniors’ Medicare benefits, add to our skyrocketing debt, and put bureaucrats in charge of decisions that should be made by patients and doctors. The bill also authorizes government-funded abortions, violating long-standing policies prohibiting federal funding of abortion. That’s not reform. My message to the American people is now is not the time to give up. Now is the time to fight harder. When the American people are engaged, Washington listens. Now is the time to speak out, more loudly and clearly than ever, against this monstrosity.”
Yep. I think that pretty much sums it up.
Time to get louder, everyone. Because apparently, the botox buildup in Nancy’s cranium has made her deaf.
How much louder can we possibly get short of armed rebellion?
Yeah, Laurel. And then you’re just running around in a militia.
OK, the markets are up today. Not sure about health care stocks in particular. Didn’t do enough research to find out. (i.e., since I have the day off, I worked out, ate a little lunch and now I’m lounging in the sun room. Yes, we have sun today. My eyes are struggling to adjust, but they’re getting there.) Anyway, I’ll be interested to see how the health care stocks respond once this whole thing gets processed. Most of the time the markets respond BEFORE things are even finished, but this time, with the bill being unveiled and read for the first time just yesterday and its passage not yet certain, things are a little muddled.
Oh by the way, Harry Reid said last night/this morning that it seemed logical that a healthy life should be something that most Americans should have a right to. So, does that mean that government is going to start doing a better job of monitoring the diet of obese people? ‘Cause I’ve been eatin’ way too much in the way of cake and cookies lately.
majordawg – I would suspect that Harry Reid just wants to come into your house, tell you what to eat, watch, say, listen to, when to pee, how often you should pee, what to drive, when to drive it, when to turn your thermostat on, or whether you’re really even ALLOWED to have a thermostat to begin with, and then after about 4,726 more demands, he’ll ask you to bend over and cough. And then send you a bill that’s the equivalent of approximately 55-60% of your income for all of the above “services.”
I’ve decided that the voters in this country are clueless. And, I’m beginning to think that they’re totally OK with being complacent, thinking that someone as brilliant as Reid or Pelosi can make decisions FOR them.
Someone please restore my faith in American intelligence.
GAWD.
MD: I wasn’t suggesting armed rebellion, I was merely stating we have been very loud and clear about this issue only to be tagged with a whole host of denigrating terms.
Yes they are going to monitor every morsel you put into your mouth all in due time and all in the name of the greater good of cost control. In this nation of extremes expect no less.
As to the markets, they aren’t going to react for some time for a couple of reasons. This bill is front loaded for starters, and as far as I can tell gives no adjustment on health care taxes for inflation. It will take a bit for that impact to catch up. When it hits the middle class though the impact will be enormous. Next up, nothing has passed as of yet to effect the health insurance industry. The Senate has two more steps to take then it goes to conference committee. In it’s current form health insurance industry will benefit to an extent because they will have more people forced to buy insurance that is by federal mandate. It is when all this doesn’t work, then the American people cry uncle, which this bill is designed to do, then switches to pure socialist model, then they will be out unless they switch to a secondary market. A secondary market will be supplemental coverage of some sort.
Daisy: I’m right there with you. I think we have actually gone backwards as a nation.
