I kind of love these guys. They’re a group called We Are Change Chicago. Just this past weekend, they went into a Borders on State Street in Chicago while McManBearPig was doing one of his many “look at me, I invented the Internet” book signings, and you know what they did? They challenged him. They even screamed a little, which I thought was a bit overdue at this point, seeing as how Climategate is still not being duly covered by the MSM. And they did this protesting while simultaneously being yelled at by all the lemmings waiting in line to get their book signed by McManBearPig. Yep. I said lemmings.
Some of the transcript of what went down:
First up was Saad Ali. As he approached Gore, he peacefully and respectably asked, Sir, can you comment on the emails and documents that were hacked [ClimateGate] that reveal that the research was a fraud and that it was all manipulated? Gore, with an evil smirk, claimed that he never read them. By the look on his face and his stutter, it became quite clear that Gore was extremely uncomfortable with the question, so he quickly glared towards his security. The agents grabbed and assaulted Saad, escorting him away from Gore for merely asking a simple question. The press took notice and started filming and snapping pictures of what was going on. One of which appeared the next day in the Chicago Sun Times.
Following Saads confrontation, Sati Word, a member of WAC Chicago, questioned Gore on why the IPCC hasnt released any reports on sunspot activity. However, before he could get an answer from Gore, security grabbed Sati and escorted him out of the building.
A little while later, Anthony, an activist from We Are Change Ohio, approached Gore and handed him the petition of the 31,486 scientists who say that Global Warming is a complete hoax. Anthony asked, What do you think about the science behind this sir? Mr. Gore rolled his eyes, and security escorted him out of the building.
Steve (swizzlesteve), was the last activist to question Gore. Within seconds of asking, Any comments on ClimateGate? The emails that prove its a scam, a farce, that global warming is a joke, any comment? Mr. Gore is heard to utter a few uhhhhhhhs and security quickly steps in to remove him as well.
It’s a 6-minute video, but well worth the watch on a Friday. And, McManBearPig’s smugness is palpable. As is the huge SUV he takes off in at the end of the clip.
Wake up, people and cop a clue. GAWD.
…and at the end, he is spirited away in a black Mercedes SUV. How fitting.
@ 4:20, “uh, uh, i don’t know”
this was so good. i hope these guys do more of these challenges.
mcpig needs to be exposed daily!
i don’t understand why anyone believes him, he has no degree in any science, couldn’t even finish college!
(even theology)
he’s a fool who has drunk his own kool-aid for so long, he believes himself. jerk.
Okay, first things first. I never believed in global warming. I knew it was a fraud from the beginning and why environmentalists are perpetuating the fraud. I agree with every point that these kids are making. However, do you think that maybe part of the reason that these guys were escorted off the property was the way they were acting?
On another subject, if Al is willing to make millions on the ’cause’ he so desperately ‘believes’ in, then he should be willing to debate and defend that cause.
BTW, I love that Al Gore drives a gas guzzling boat. Why isn’t he forced to drive a poncy little electric shoebox?
Gore has established a well documented pattern of behavior here, which is silence all dissent. I doubt he even understands the data. What he does understand is money.
Not surprised in the least at his behavior since I remember when he and Tipper were calling for the censorship of music.
Really!? A Mercedes SUV!? What a jacka$$! (wow, nice ironic use of the dollar signs!)
Doesn’t GM make a few SUV options with Hybrid or at least FlexFuel technology?
Good PR move, Al.
Greenies, he’s fleecing you. Wake up.
Gotta agree with Tazzy here. Those guys were making really good points in a really inappropriate way. I would have had them escorted out, too, simply for their behavior.
That being said… Gore’s lemmings wouldn’t hesitate to act the same way at Sarah Palin’s booksignings, now would they?
While I do agree with Tazzy to some degree as well, they got noticed, they got on the news, and let’s face it – this subject is not getting HALF the press it should right now.
As much as I don’t condone acting like screaming banshees, I will say that it got my attention. And anyone else’s who sees this. If that helps wake some people up, then so be it at this point.
And the Thought Police take more people away.
Where can I possibly start with these yahoos and this video? Have any of you ever been to a book signing? I’m going to assume so, and as such, I think you know that you don’t get to talk to the person signing, especially when it’s a high profile guy like Gore. Trying to have a conversation just isn’t feasible. Even trying to do that, on any topic, is going to get you asked to move along. That first guy is asked to leave by the woman standing there several times, and is then moved along. He then decides its would be prudent to start flailing about and screaming lunatic BS about a New World Order and eugenics. WTF? You’re taking these people seriously after that?
The next guy starts screaming before being asked to leave, and seems to be making some sort of point regarding Al Gore as the champion of a New World Order Nazi/Fascist eugenics program. Wow. Seriously? I mean, maybe you don’t think that humans are responsible for climate change, or maybe you don’t think it’s changing at all, but a Nazi/Fascist NWO based in eugenics with global warming and Al Gore as its front? Call me naive, but that seems a little out there.
Then there’s ole’ swizzlesteve. The camera doesn’t really let you see much, but that constructed narrative there lets you know what Al was up to, thank goodness (same with the “evil smirk” aimed at the first guy). Swizzlesteve seems like a pretty reasonable guy, other than the fact that he feels like a carbon tax somehow necessarily entails a global government. Oh, and that it’s a good idea to walk into a book signing spewing conspiracy theories and yelling at other people for lining up for a “bum.” I’m glad these guys got themselves on the news, too, but I think for a different reason.
Oh, and that video. Could the music possibly be more melodramatic? And the edit at the end – nice. Sure, he says “I don’t know.” That obviously isn’t the entirety of his answer — why is that? Why not leave the whole answer in? I guess whatever he said afterward isn’t as important as making him look like a fool.
I’ve not said anything about so-called “Climategate” because I thought people would realize what a non-story it is, but that’s apparently not going to happen. After doing some reading, some conclusions seem pretty obvious. First, the “trick” referred to has to do with the fact that after 1960, data collected from tree rings differed significantly from data gathered from other sources. Things like permafrost levels, ocean temperature, glacial melting, and atmospheric temperatures indicate a rising temperature. After 1960, tree ring data no longer corresponds to these other ways of measuring temperature. Since the majority of measurements corroborate one another, scientists believe there is a problem with the tree ring data (a problem they’re working to understand). As such, tree ring data collected after 1960 was not included in final figures. This is not uncommon. My boyfriend is a scientist who works for a university gathering data on mosquitoes and West Nile Virus. This sort of correcting of data is just how scientists tend to do their thing. The idea of not doing it actually made him laugh.
This is the paper: http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/cas/Trenberth/trenberth.papers/EnergyDiagnostics09final2.pdf the email dealing with being unable to account for recent non-warming trends refers to. The man states unequivocally in the paper that global warming is happening. The email is expressing frustration that models are not finely tuned enough to reflect year by year climate change. Context, people.
The silencing of dissenting journals? The editors of the journal Climate Research actually resigned over the publishing of a paper by Willie Soon and Sallie Baliunas. That paper didn’t even have original research in it — it was a review of other people’s stuff. There was a big kerfuffle over the paper, because a lot of people thought it was flawed. The editors of the journal finally stepped down, because the peer-review process had failed and allowed a paper with seriously flawed arguments to be published. The man who wrote the email was explaining, through private correspondence, his dissatisfaction with the whole thing.
Oh, and the data “disappearing”? Listen, I know for a fact that scientists, people like my boyfriend, spend a lot of time begging other people for access to raw data. The people that collect data guard it fiercely, and tend to sell it for profit, or at least to recoup the costs of the equipment used to gather it. The data didn’t “disappear” — if you want raw data, you can pay someone for it. Raw data isn’t much use, but RealClimate put together links for people interested in it: http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/data-sources/ I know RealClimate isn’t credible for you people, but that is really just a page full of links to raw data websites, and that’s it.
Finally, and I think really most clearly — these hackers had access to thirteen years worth of private correspondence, and this is the best they come up with? If there really was some sort of global conspiracy, don’t you think that would have come up at least once? Like a name, maybe? Who’s paying off who? And why? The fact that all they have is cherry-picked, context free quotes speaks volumes to the inauthenticity of the theory.
The real question is whether or not global warming is caused by humans, not whether or not it exists. Beck and Hannity probably won’t say anything about this, and so a lot of you probably won’t believe it, but the information’s out there if you care to look. Why only listen to one side?
Daisy, It did get attention, but I couldn’t even finish watching that part of the clip (turned the audio off) because the way they acted made them look ‘crazy’. I was embarrassed for them. It was a good message, and got them noticed, but I’m 98% sure that the people in the store were thinking “LOONIES!” Yes, screaming and shouting outside near the SUV was appropriate, (they could have added signs to make it more effective) but doing the same in the bookstore was just OTT. It reminded me of my quiet afternoon in Tully’s being disturbed by two crazy guys (and I mean literally crazy) shouting about the govrenment, WWII, conspiracy theories and ethnicities.
Megan – wow. I have seen denial before, but WOW.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgIEQqLokL8&feature=player_embedded
Megan: You are making assumptions that we haven’t looked at the data. We have and two and two don’t equal five dear. How do we know the data your boyfriend used to calculate is accurate? We don’t and that is precisely one of the points.
As to Al Bore, maybe if he would answer a question once and awhile, and debate once and awhile, instead of ducking everyone including actual scientists, people wouldn’t have to act stupid to get his attention and that of those around him.
Ironically enough the left has been telling us for years that we need to take care of the planet. That same planet they tell us is living and breathing. To an extent they are right. However, if the planet is a life form then, what makes the Darwinists think that same life form would not adapt? Adapt, that is, if there is actual Global Warming as they state.
Finally, here in SF, the bay is the cleanest it has ever been since the Gold Rush! And guess what…the environmentalists are having a fit because the ecosystems that popped up during the pollution of the bay are dying off. They shot themselves in the foot with their own argument.
I do agree cleanliness is next to Godliness. However these people are not God, and they could use a little God in their life.
People need to get off the GW track and worry about Global cooling and what that is going to do their food supply.
