Mitch Daniels Talks Cap And Trade

GOD, I love this man.

My Man Mitch delivered the national GOP address this week, and in addition to being completely precious, which he obviously is, he did a bang-up job. I mean, he just says it like it is, politiely, eloquently, and plainly. He presents the facts on why this whole Cap and Trade plan is the worst possible idea ever, and he does it in a way that’s reasonable, non-confrontational, and totally effective.

This country needs a whole lot more Mitches.

  • I said to majorwife today:
“The world would be a much better place if people would just learn one lesson: Don’t take other people’s stuff!” Now, I didn’t use the word stuff and in this context I’m using money as an example of stuff.

Environmental reform and clean energy is one of the areas that I (personal opinoin here) think needs government intervention. the degree is a matter of greater personal opinion. Both or either of those issues can be debated until the cows come home, but if you tax people for producing something in some particular way (even if you THINK the tax is on pollution) they’ll stop producing, produce somewhere else, or cut production significantly. None of those is an appealing result if you ask me.

  • I like his quiet confidence. I worry about Indiana, the nice state. People there are getting their clocks cleaned by the GM debacle. As to cap and trade, if the bill passes, it will be the final nail in California’s coffin. This state already has the highest energy costs of all 50 states.

Majordawg: You are correct. Your opinion is proven. Look no further than California.

  • Oh C’mon, people. Cap & Trade is gonna save the planet! Stop being so negative, you, you Republicans! Why is that everytime there’s a push for Global positive initiative, you’re always so negative???? Damn you people!!

  • Nice speech, particularly the last minute or so. I hate is when Midwestern politicians do the whole “we’re just simple folk, unlike those jerks on the coasts” thing, but otherwise the guy is just spot on.

  • This Daniels is good. Direct, polite, sensible, credible, you want to hear more from him. He is intellegently juxtaposing the success of his state against the backdrop of what he see wrong nationally. It’s not blind criticism, he’s saying “I think this is bad because look at what we acomplished here” and he gives specific examples. He is also a republican Cheif Executive in a state that split 50/50 narrowly going for Obama which means he knows how to talk across the line… 2012 will be interesting..yeah he could be a player.
