New Here? Well, Greetings And Salutations!

Written by  //  February 20, 2009  //  The Makeover And/Or Miscellaneous  //  120 Comments

So, why did we start this blog, anyway?

We’re glad you asked.

When you hear the word “conservative” or “Republican” or the phrase “right-wing,” what image pops into your mind? If your answer looks anything like an older white dude with gray hair and a scowl, wearing a business suit or holding a bible and wielding a firearm, you’re not alone. Stodgy old white guys have long been associated with the GOP and conservatives. And it was, in part, this very stereotype that led us to start Chicks On The Right. We think conservatism needs a big-time makeover.

Here’s a news flash for all the liberals out there – Not all conservatives listen to country music and pack heat. Not all of us have rebel flags in the back of our Ford F150s. Not all of us are crazed religious freaks who will chase after you with our bibles. And, not all of us are old, gray-haired white men in suits. Nor are we just 20-something WASPs with trust funds. Some of us are stiletto-and-Sephora-wearing, hardworking chicks who juggle families, careers, and some semblance of a social life. We appreciate traditional family values, but don’t mind a great dirty joke. We like men who hold the door open for us, and don’t FLIP THE FREAK OUT if they sneak a peek as we’re walking by. We embrace our own feminism, and leave the bra-burning and hairy armpits to the Gloria Steinem-ites. We love our country, and we adore our husbands and kids. We believe that America is not only just exceptional, but that it is simply the most kickass country that ever existed. And we don’t hate government. We just want it to be limited. We believe in a healthy respect for government, in fact, but in turn, we believe that government should understand that it receives its power from us. The people.

Oh yeah – and that healthy respect for government? That doesn’t mean we can’t mock it. We believe, actually, in the power of laughter and mockery to keep us grounded when the people in power threaten our sanity on a daily basis with their ridiculous shenanigans (and yes, Nancy Pelosi, we mean you.) We’ve noticed the demise of foundational values in this country – values such as hard work, personal responsibility, and the capitalist notion of less government interference. With the dawn of the Millenial-generation’s “everyone-including-my-country- owes-me” mentality and the media-driven deification of Obama in the last Presidential election, we started speaking out more and more about the looming socialist ideology that faced us – the “Harrison Bergeronification” of our country, if you will. And we couldn’t believe the backlash we received as a result. Apparently, people get really sensitive when you criticize liberal ideology. People become quite vicious, in fact, in their debates about various political figures, goings-on in Washington, and even good old American values as obvious as honoring the American flag. It was after a few of these lively discussions that we decided we needed to start a new site – one where we could freely mock and poke fun at the political process and all of its related people and parts, but also appeal to others like us – conservative, cool, and totally together women of today (and the men who love them) who just don’t buy into the media-espoused liberal philosophy that bigger government is the answer to every problem.

Let’s face it. Being a conservative isn’t necessarily considered cool. And we believe that it’s time for the conservative movement to move past its cold, white-male stereotypical image, jump into this century, and get their butts in gear from a technological and public relations standpoint. It’s a necessity in order to compete with the frightening, yet ever-growing population in this country that relies on E! News and high-school-dropout celebrities for its political information. We believe that the notion of take-take-take will not come without an ultimate price. We believe that change comes only from every single individual in this country – as opposed to more enabling, individually-disabling, government control. And we believe there are lots more people like us out there – people who are seriously disturbed by the trends they see in today’s culture, but not so serious that they can’t make fun of it all. As we already mentioned, we like to laugh and mock as often as possible. And what better to laugh AT than politics and politicians and the political process?

If you prefer a political site that is more buttoned-up than miniskirt, we’re probably not for you. We like snark, we like to have fun, and our site reflects that. We don’t claim to be journalists or political experts or economists or anything other than two cool chicks who like to tell people what we think about stuff. In other words, what you’ll read is our opinions on today’s political news, culture, and the media. Except that instead of being served up all newsy and serious, it’ll sound more like you’ve just sat down for cocktails with us, after shopping for shoes. We welcome liberals and conservatives alike to join in the discussion, and encourage lively but civil discourse. You’re even welcome to use words like “target” and “crosshairs” when you comment, and we won’t call you a terrorist or anything.

Welcome to http://www.chicksontheright.com!

Ladies, you make me even more proud to be a Conservative than I was. Keep up the good work. If more Conservative women like you speak their minds it just might soften up the image of us hard case Conservative men. With the Liberal Intelligentsia running the media we need all the help we can get, LOL.

It was a great pleasure to meet the both of you intelligent ladies this past Saturday! I’ve only had a brief moment to delve into your insightful blog but from what I’ve read thus far, I’m HOOKED! Keep up the good work and I, too, will be visiting often. After all, someone has to keep these crazed liberals under some kind of control, right?!

Found you guys last night after doing a Google search for the yummy pics of Scott Brown! This is a great blog. Found you on Facebook too. I was once passionate about politics but three babies (and another on the way) kind of took over. However, I’m thinking the Massachusetts election and this blog might just have re-sparked my interest! I shall be back often (probably daily)!

I happened to get the bingo card from a friend. WOW!! I am glad she sent it. I did not know about your site. I will definately be a follower. I was jumping up and down when I watched the final returns from my democratic state of Massachusetts and saw that Scott Brown ( no relation) had won. My only regret is that some of my kids are liberals , dont know how that happened. No wait, yes I do, schools and colleges!! Keep up the good work!

This site is great! The link was sent to me by a friend at another TEA Party site.
More and more Americans are waking up and some are willing to go as far as the Founding Fathers to restore this Republic.
We women have alot more power and influence than many realize or refuse to acknowledge.
Increasing numbers are becoming politically active and are taking time out of their lives to call, write and meet face to face with their elected officials and are demanding representation of THIER ideals, not those of the representatives.
They have been called names, accused of being ‘right wing nuts’ and have even captured the attention of the immenently UNQUALIFIED Homeland Security Sec., Janet Incompetano [at least Arizona is safer without her].
The main stream media [NOT] AKA the ‘Sock Puppet Press’ is complicit in this administration’s socialist agenda.
Thank goodness for sites such as this which offer the truth as well as informative and entertaining commentary.
Warkittens, do not despair! Winston Churchill said “If you are not a liberal in your 20′s, you have no heart. If not conservative in your 40′s, you have no brain”. They will figure it out when they are members of the adult community and realize how much of their paycheck goes to the ‘government’.
    I’ll definitely come back.
    THANKS!

Oh thank god I found you.

Apparently I am a too white over priviledged, uncompassionate person. I also do not rely on social services and I worked my ass of to become an engineer.

I am here. Although I am more nerdy-geeky than hip, but I do own a corset ;) . I agree with you 100%, especially the almost slavish worship of celebrity. But people who are too lazy to think need something to entertain themselves with, but I wonder when masturbation became passe? The training starts young, in school. its scary to go to sites and have lessons for the teacher and what the kids “should get” out of the lesson. Funny how the supposed proper answer is a liberal one. Woe be the kid who doesnt sing kumbayah .

Read part of your blog. Sort of interesting.

“Not all of us are crazed religious freaks who will chase after you with our bibles.”

Yeah, before I knew the Lord I might have used an expression like that or thought that was funny.

I have a healthy respect for people who like the bible and read it.

I am registered Republican although lately I was thinking constitutionalist would be better.

I have never been fond of country music, do not own a gun (I would though and think having one in the house in case someone broke in in the middle of the night is not a bad idea). I believe in the second amendment. Never owned a pick up truck. Just a regular guy who thinks God is cool and loves this country.

  27. PRP May 31, 2010 at 2:37 pm ·

“Not all Republicans listen to country music and pack heat.”

I am not big on country music, but believe in exercising my second amendment rights.

So much is happening and so quickly.
The ‘CRICES’ so enjoyed by Chief of Staff, Rahm Emmanuel just keep on coming and the incredible incompetence of this entire administration is stunning.
There have been attempted terror attacks and one successful attack at Ft Hood which was entirely preventable if the Army had been less focused on political correctness and the desire not to offend one of its officers who was OBVIOUSLY an Islamic Fanatic…the botched car bomb in times square & the Christmas Day ‘underwear bomber’.
There here is the oil spill in the Gulf…………imagine how George W. Bush would be pilloried by the media if he were still Commander in Chief. Obama didn’t even deign to show himself in La until EIGHT days after a mysterious explosion took the lives of eleven human beings………has the media gone out of its way to examine the lives of those people and their families? NO, they’re too busy pointing fingers at BP and Haliburton. Chris Matthews [that brilliant 'journalist' from MSNBC] suggested that the CEO of BP be EXECUTED…………[R E A L L Y ?!?!?!?]and that our government take over the company…….
[again, R E A L L Y ?!?!?!?] In the mean time the oil continues to spread and will soon foul the beaches and marshes of Gulf Coast states…….the upcoming hurricaine season will also be helpful, I’m sure! I, for one, would really love to know HOW the thing blew up in the first place!
Last week the Israelis boarded a ship which violated an international blockade, the ship [allegedly] was carrying ‘humanitarian relief supplies’ for the people of Gaza [who, at this time are not particularely in NEED of said supplies]. The Israelis were ‘armed’ with paintball guns [sorry to be repetative here but R E A L L Y!?!?!?!?] and side arms which they had been instructed not to use unless they were fired upon first. The ‘humanitarians’ set upon the Israelis with pipes and knives, they [the Israelis] were beated, stabbed, and thrown from upper decks to lower decks and into the water.
The only thing Hamaas and the Palestinians do during any cease fires is rearm. The response from the UN? Condemnation of Israel.
The response from the US via Sec State Hillary Clinton was support of the Un’s position.
The UN has ignored Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons but is looking to remove Israel’s nuclear weapons.
Personally, I think the UN should relocate, to Israel within range of the missiles which are lobbed into that country with great frequency by the Palestinians.
This snowball of insanity continues its course down the mountain gathering momentum and size.
Our government is out of control and is trying to remove the constitution from our realm of knowledge just as a minority has attempted to remove God from the conscienceness of the American People.
We need to WAKE up. We need to READ the constitution so we can know what is says and what it means and we need to share that knowledge with our kids and grandkids. They need to understand that the government started by our founders was not a Democracy but a Representative Republic. No Democracy in the history of the world has survived more than a couple of hundred years.
After the Constitution was written a woman asked Ben Franklin what kind of government they had chosen for the people, his response was “A Republic, Madam, IF you chose to keep it”.
This is now OUR choice…..we need to stay awake and to awaken our friends and neighbors.
There are battles on two fronts………our fight for liberty over tyranny and our fight for life over Islamic fanaticism.
    God Bless.

In order to provide some education to the public, our local Tea Party Patriot group is sponsoring a Flag Day Celebration consisting of a flag (antique, new, state, etc) demo and handouts on flag etiquette, history, and fun flag coloring pics for kids….just one way we are trying to bring back the message to our neighbors. Any other ideas of how we can provide fun ways to remind them of our heritage?

You know, I find myself checking in here every day. Multiple times a day thanks to facebook links. You all have the correct attitude, something I have been personally fighting about FOR AGES – the need for Conservatives to get past the fuddy-duddy image they have been so willing to accept and get out there with a fresh attitude. A good product sells itself; a GREAT product sells in droves. The same goes for Conservatism, but you have to show people what it’s all about.

    Besides, I’ll take a miniskirt over a button-up collar any day. ;-)

Found you chickies the same way Queen Bee did – from a conservative friend’s FB post. Whooo hoooo! What a find! Watched and read some of your stuff: I laughed, I cried. Love that you, like me, are probably PERCEIVED as being left of center outside of cyberspace because of your gender and age, and in my case, career choice…but nothing could be further from the truth! Love that my peeps love red shoes! :-) And no, not a country jock – it’s Classic Rock for this girlie. Rock on, women.

Changes are great. I love the Mast Head. the pictures are awesome and I love the colors; the black and read of the previous site was bit to harsh and Naziesque :-) . The site feels better , much more polished and reflects I think the personality of the owners which is really imprtant.

I like the carousel and the ‘Dynamic lead” as it sets the site up more like a traditional content site as opposed to a blog roll. It enables you, if you so desire, to present your own feature news stories like a traditional news site which is cool. The only problem that I have with the functionality is when you select a subject and the carousel stops on that subject, it delays for a couple of seconds and then continues to auto rotate. I would prefer if it the auto rotation stopped once you selected a page until you decided to click through or not.

I think the content grouping tabs up top are fine, as those tabs could one day could evolve into actual editorial departments or sections, although I agree about the need to always make accessing older posts easy, which the former, more simplistic format allowed you to do . I do miss the section on the right side of the page where users could see what other users made comments last. It was cool to just click on the name of that user and go right to that spot in the post and see what they said, and then read the rest of the thread if you wanted.

Things will get smoother and even better as you all move forward, but congratulations on the steps taken, and with a site this nice, it’s time you all start acquiring advertisers, sponsorships, promotions, banners ect. that are direct revenue and not just Google adsense remnant stuff where a cost per click pricing model, where Google takes half and the rest is being divied between 5000 other publishers giving you that minuscule .00002% takedown. but for the time being Bravo! or Brava!

Alright y’all ….HuffPo just inked a deal with AOL for 315 million dollars, 60% cash! LOL, and this is funny…Huffington was made Editor and Chief of the entire AOL news vertical of sites including the one she built. Other than hosting some obscure talk shows way back when and writing a few books which no one read, she has no real background in journalism, in fact her degree was in economics, yet because she owns a news blog, in addition to, with this buy out/acquisition, making enough money that puts her on the same level as her former gay Congressman husband, Oil baron Michael Huffington, she is now the editorial top dog in one of the most powerful media companies in the world.

Again, she did this from a love of politics…and a blog, not unlike this one in its origins what…seven years ago?

As a result of this deal there is going to be a lot more interest …and money in news/blogs which are redefining the game even as we type, bubbling up it’s own players, decision makes and stars….that’s the game y’all are in….You’re thinking right, and anything is possible…much sooner and bigger than you ever imagined provided you are open to it.

  43. Mockarena February 7, 2011 at 3:20 pm ·

hi ladies… just found and LOVE your blog… I am 100% behind your attitudes and spunkiness…

cheers from a new fan, an ex-Chicago area suburban girl… I’m a feisty independent-Reagan-conservative living in beautiful, but the mini-leftist-socialist, UN-following wee island nation of NZ

my hubby, whom I adore, also loves America from the 7 years we lived in Wonder Lake, Illinois but we tired of snow and the rat race and opted for laid back palm tree lifestyle of Auckland… we both work in IT, love nature, small government and were quite happy under GW’s policies even though he wasn’t much of a conservative… at least he loved America and was true to his beliefs

I cannot wait until the Kenyan usurper is ousted or leaves the people’s white house… and if Palin jumps in the 2012 race, I’m backing her 1000%… but I’ll back almost ANYONE except Obumbles, I mean the USA is really really reaaaaaallllly on the WRONG WRONG wrong path of European socialism… what a mess!

glad to learn you’re fighting the good fight…

Hiya Lisa! Have always wanted to visit NZ. JEALOUS. Made it to Australia in 2002 and loved every second of it. Wish we would have tacked on a few extra days to visit NZ. Glad you’re here and hope you comment often! :)

I found you ladies about a year or so ago through facebook and always look forward to whatever you might have to talk about. You’re a definite favorite of mine and I have to say (I know I can without offending either of you, LOL) that you further prove that that conservatives have the market on attractive and more importantly, SMART woman nailed! Thanks for what you do, I share with everyone I know :)

  69. Mockarena September 18, 2011 at 3:26 pm ·

Thanks Robbo! Glad you’re here! :)

  70. Momofjboy October 13, 2011 at 7:39 pm ·

…just found this site today. I have already posted several links via FB and shared your site with a liberal aunt. You speak my language and I can’t wait to visit for ****tails after shoe shopping. Cheers and thanks!

  71. Mockarena October 13, 2011 at 8:12 pm ·

Hiya Momofjboy! Glad you found us. Your aunt will probably not like us much. :)

Would a “MERCY!” a la Roy Orbison and maybe a “Hubba, hubba!” be out of place?

  75. Mockarena October 29, 2011 at 7:58 pm ·

Not at all. We welcome mercy’s and hubba hubba’s. :)

I wish the Chicks on the Right were my next door neighbors. I share your philosophy.(except that I listen to Country music, drive a pick-up and I’m not too bad a shot.) Love the humor. Love the irreverence. Love the shoes.

  81. ant January 19, 2012 at 11:08 am ·

I clicked on this site just recently, thanks to the link at MOTUS, glad I did. You do reinforce one obvious stereotype though…that conservative women are hot!

  82. Andrea January 23, 2012 at 1:40 pm ·

I’m late to the party, but I’m so glad to have finally found the party already in progress! You chicks ROCK and it’s both comforting and reassuring to know that there are others out there who are EXACTLY. LIKE. ME. It’s a lonely existence for us chicks living in a bastion of liberalism just outside NYC, so I’m thrilled to find that there are indeed others who share my philosophy!

  83. Mockarena January 25, 2012 at 7:51 am ·

Welcome Andrea! Glad you’re here! :)

  84. Mockarena January 25, 2012 at 7:52 am ·

  85. Sandy February 19, 2012 at 11:59 pm ·

Nice to see another from CA, as we are “endangered” as she put it above, surrounded by liberals. I’m here for ya, girl!

  86. Mitchell March 29, 2012 at 2:18 am ·

You claim to enjoy poking fun and discussing what you believe in, but when those Caledonia kids started doing that, you overreacted just a bit… What is your justification in doing so? Are you insecure about being called anything less than attractive?

  87. Mockarena March 29, 2012 at 4:20 am ·

Mitchell – seriously – how sad is your life that you spent an entire evening re-using/re-creating a facebook profile just to be able to continue to post disgusting comments on a site you’ve been banned from? Think about that for a second. And then ask yourself why in the world you would think you deserve an answer to “What is your justification in doing so?” question.

How bad of a school IS Caledonia? Holy crap.

How our looks has anything to do with your juvenile behavior (tell your friend Sarek that’s you spell “juvenile” by the way) – I have no idea. You kids are so clueless.

    Go do your homework.

I heard you ladies yesterday on Joe Pags radio show and I loved what you had to say! I’m with you ladies 100% – I’m sick and tired of the PC crowd and know we all need to stand together to get rid of the idiots running this country today. I’m a strong, opinionated conservative woman and appreciate any forum where I can read and share with other same minded people. Thanks for sharing!

  97. Michelle April 24, 2012 at 1:52 am ·

How do I unsubscribe from this? I’m getting countless emails about people making such trivial comments… I am disappointed by my experience here. The articles have such blatantly disrespectful titles, albeit true on occasion, that I almost feel physical pain for the ones you are ridiculing…

  98. Ricci April 24, 2012 at 2:43 am ·

Guys, like the new new format (:P! I had to stop in and say thanks. This blog is where I come to decompress and drop my filter and enjoy me some snark!! My site, mailbox, chicks, dock. My nightly ritual. For months now, LOL. Thanks for making a place where I feel so at home.

  99. Holly April 24, 2012 at 9:01 am ·

So you blocked me, because I guess you can’t handle the truth, or any view which disputes that which is different from your psychopathic view of the world, and your Narcissistic obsession with yourselves. Enjoy your bubble while it lasts; eventually real life will pop it. The vitriolic garbage you spew into the general discourse will rebound. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame girls. Too bad you can’t put all this frenzied energy you have towards love and compassion for the world in general.

  100. Carolyn April 24, 2012 at 9:11 am ·

Blocked? What alternate universe are you living in Holly? I SEE YOU. LOL.

Hey, I have a GREAT idea. How about you put forth some “facts” and “data” that show how misguided we all are instead of coming here and hurling invectives.

My guess is that it is not possible because they (those pesky facts and that dratted data) are not on your side.

  101. Holly April 24, 2012 at 9:18 am ·

I’m blocked from their FB page. Every word uttered here is quite simply a reinforcement of a rigid belief system, which leaves no room for any discourse of the issues. The tone is mean-spirited and negative against anyone who does not agree with them. But I realize that talking to people such as this is like talking to a wall, so I will move on to doing work which actually demonstrates compassion and reason for all people in this world, and not just blondes on right-wing steroids.

  102. Mockarena April 24, 2012 at 9:24 am ·

Holly – you were blocked on our FB page because we keep that space troll-free. Obviously, you’re not blocked here, because we allow people to be as moronic as they want to be on this page, within reason.

It’s not that we can’t handle the truth, it’s that you aren’t bringing it. You’re just bringing insults and liberal stupidity. It’s like Carolyn said, you’ve got no facts and data, so you just sling mud.

    Yawn.

  103. Teri April 24, 2012 at 9:30 am ·

    Holly,

You may want to refrain from the spewing of vitriolic garbage while attempting to condemn perceived vitriolic garbage. I’m not seeing any love and compassion in your comment…just frenzied name calling.

I really don’t expect you to comprehend the irony. But thanks for the chuckle. You may return to your delusion unless, of course, you would like to start discussing some FACTS.

  104. Brandon April 24, 2012 at 10:05 am ·

    Hey!

While I do pack heat, do listen to country music, and do drive a Ford and nothing but, I am loving the blog and videos ;) I love the realism and the lack of political correctness. Keep it up! You guys (or gals) are great!

  105. Mockarena April 24, 2012 at 10:21 am ·

    Thanks Brandon and welcome!

  106. Nancy April 24, 2012 at 10:34 am ·

This is a FANTASTIC find! Thank you, THANK YOU, Chicks! Part of the irony of Holly’s idiocy is that the ENTIRE media, with the exception of Fox, which drives them crazy, is in LOCK~STEP crazy hatred over anything Conservative. It’s SO REFRESHING to see the unvarnished truth with no PC filter. I have become so ……..scared for my country in the past few years, watching people fall for the magic tricks of this administration while the country is robbed blind and our children are thrown in prison to an unsustainable debt. People like holly who jump in and claim the high road while they are complicit in the destruction of freedom will have to answer to someone else for their deeds, but the uninformed or easily led are the lemmings who can sink the country, and unfortunately the media, the schools and apathy are a pretty tough nut to crack – and we NEED people like you wonderful, patriotic and BEAUTIFUL chicks to bring sanity to the darkness. It’s not an easy role, and I know it makes you guys targets……….thank you ~ and I will be back, OFTEN!

  107. Mockarena April 24, 2012 at 10:59 am ·

    THanks, Nancy! And welcome! :)

  108. Kathy April 24, 2012 at 11:09 am ·

Holly, I saw your post on their FB page and actually laughed out loud. I almost wish Mock had kept it up there so everyone could see the hypocrisy. You called the content ‘vaporous’ and the comments ‘knee-jerk’, all while leaving a vaporous and knee-jerk comment. Hilarious!

If you really want to be taken seriously, stick around the website and debate and engage its readers. Don’t drop in, call us all names and then pick up your ball and stomp home. That just makes you look foolish and ignorant.

Just now discovered this site. Love it. Am emailing/tweeting the link to every good conservative, male as well as female, that I know. You are providing a much needed service, and if nothing else, a valid antidote to Meggie McCain, who fancies herself as the de facto voice of the young right.

Go forth and kick some snooty liberal arse!
